Daughter 2's house, near Libourne, is surrounded by flood water. Her NDN is flooded. Luckily the farmer who built D2's house in the late 40s worried about flooding after heavy rains in 1944 so he had it raised and there are steps up to it. Forecast says no rain for a few days, the ground in SW France is saturated. The river Dronne near my town has flooded. My house is OK, on a bit of a hill.
Daughter 1 has The Fairy, doing very well, but mine died at my old house, it just wouldn't thrive. I think deer ate it, that was before I was aware there were deer. OH fenced a lot of the garden since then.
We are going to the opera aria and dinner evening and I'll wear my evening dress and faux fur jacket.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Thank heavens you were able to be seen so quickly @Ergates. Even if it is 'just' a pinched nerve, it sounds very painful and frightening. Enjoy your evening @Busy-Lizzie. I still have some Prada heels that I bought a long time ago in a sale. There is no chance that I could wear them for a whole evening. And I still have a couple of pairs of lovely kitten heels that I probably could wear - if I had somewhere to wear them! A cyclone sounds very scary @Pat E - hope it is not too destructive. The table decorations for tonight's social are done:
I shall have to take my glue gun with me - I'm not sure how well those candles will fare in the back of the car. Now I have to go into town. The ladies make lots of lovely puddings but my contribution is always the cheese and I haven't bought it yet.
Feeling so much better today. I’ve been taking ibuprofen as instructed, so it’s obviously working. I went out twice last night after dark to see if I could spot any Geminid meteors, thought it might be a bit dodgy standing with my head held back watching the sky, but I didn’t get a single twinge or headache all evening. And I did see four meteors! All the blood tests came back embarrassingly normal, smack in the middle of each range, so very relieved. I think it was the painful scalp that was ringing the alarm bells, it’s a symptom of a potentially serious artery problem that needs immediate attention to prevent blindness. Explains a few of the tests the GP did to rule that out. So all well, I can learn to cope with the sore neck. Out to the garden for some stargazing again tonight if the sky is clear, peak frequency for meteors, and there may be some therapeutic benefits for the headaches! @D0rdogne_Damsel, I bet I’m not the only one who would love to see a picture of the Firefighters tea! What cakes are you planning? Hope @punkdoc and Moira are starting to notice an improvement?
So am I, @punkdoc! I was getting quite worried as I ticked so many of the boxes. Very relieved to be seen so quickly and having that ruled out. Our GP practice really rose to the occasion when needed. Very glad you are now managing to get some nourishment down you, bound to speed up your recovery.
Got back from town about 3.30pm after quite an enjoyable couple of hours shopping. Both buses, traffic and shops comparatively quiet to my surprise. Bought one of OH's presies and some stocking fillers. I did wander into Jolly's,our so called old established department store, looking for Calvin Klein underwear for OH but was so gobsmacked at their prices, I wandered out again in shock!
I got off the bus home one stop early, as it was school chucking out time because I knew the gate would be open and I could wander in to look at the memorial garden I designed and planted back in 2014. I rather wished I hadn't because it was so neglected and overgrown, full of big bramble bushes and dock plants. Some of the bushes/perennials I had planted have survived but I could have wept. All that fundraising, effort, time and money gone to waste.
The mind boggles @D0rdogne_Damsel, a tea party for firefighters! We want pictures!
Glad you're better @Ergates, I was quite worried for you last night. I've been warned to look out for those symptoms as apparently I'm now at risk.
Also glad to hear that you are now both eating @punkdoc, that's a good sign you're on the mend.
Sorry to hear that you are at risk, @Lizzie27. Hopefully you will have an eye kept on you, and get prompt treatment if you need it. Headache is back this evening, but milder, and of course I’m not so worried now. Also very cloudy here tonight, so no real chance to test the stargazing theory. Glad you had a enjoyable shopping trip. Used to love Jolly’s, especially their coffee shop at the back of the store. Expensive though, I buy OH’s underwear in TKMaxx! Went to the big Tesco for cheap petrol, and had a wander round the store. No real signs of pre Christmas panic buying as yet. Dunelm was fairly busy, but I think it’s because it’s coffee shop is a popular venue for the over 27s. Managed to restrain ourselves and just looked at the rugs as planned. I’m still thinking about @D0rdogne_Damsel’s Firefighters tea! That is going to be one impressive spread of cakes, my idea of heaven!
Thanks @Ergates, I'm taking quite a lot of medication for the first time in my life and the list of potential nasty side effects are long! Thankfully I feel okay at the moment. Blast, I forgot about TKMaxx!
Have you heard about the 80 rescue donkeys (including 20 pregnant ones) just arrived at the Donkey Sanctuary? Could be a tad noisy!
We have seen several newborn donkeys at the Sanctuary during our visits. Lovely to think they will all have a chance to thrive in safety. As well as visiting the Sanctuary frequently, we also pass one of their other farms, not open to the public, but big herds of donkeys to be seen in the fields. Nearly time for lights out, but I’ll go and check whether the sky has cleared. Might see some more meteors!
Glad to hear you're eating @punkdoc , can I supply cake? Lots of it around here, I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for one out of the oven at 11pm ( French time).
I'm ( tentatively) hoping one of the firefighters might catch my eye, the way to a man's love etc. etc.... not bigging it up too much though. 🙄 We're serving coffee and walnut cake, Christmas cake, mince pies, cheesecake, scones, cupcakes and shortbread. Apparently, it's just a little 'snack' before they go to a fancy dinner in the evening. I'll try and send photos. 😉
I do love Dunelm, miss it very much @Ergates. Our breakfast plates are from there, now discontinued sadly, need to find a replacement before summer arrives.
Ok, must dash, need to check Christmas cakes in the oven.
Charlie home tomorrow, gosh I shouldn't be so needy, but I love to see him. Good evening all, / good morning @Pat E

Both of us are still feeling fairly awful, but at least we are starting to eat.

Love the table decorations @didyw.
Have a lovely evening @Busy-Lizzie. Look forward to hearing all about it tomorrow.
