I don’t think it’s stopped raining here since 7pm last night. Really noisy on the roof too, but luckily no sign of flooding on the patio, so the soakaway must be coping ok. A day at home today, OH is fitting a new mantel piece round the gas stove, so in between helping him, I have changed the bedding and got some laundry on. I made a batch of pigs in blankets for the freezer yesterday, and I’ll make another lot today. We will probably eat some for dinner, with potato dauphinois from a meal deal I got tempted by. No idea yet when the children / grandchildren will be visiting over Christmas, but I’m going to be as relaxed as I can about that. Will have two adults to stay for a few days, plus the other two plus two boys coming to spend a day while they are here. After last year, when daughter and SIL got stranded at home with a broken down car on Christmas Eve, I reckon I can cope with a bit of uncertainty! OH and I have spent quite a few Christmases just the two of us ( I think he actually prefers that!) so I’ll enjoy everything whenever. Hope the chest infections are all easing, and OHs op goes well, @Red maple. The driveway sounds great,, @Lizzie27. Very envious. Ours could do with some attention, but it’s very long and sloping, and I suspect would require a second mortgage to pay for it.
Wishing your OH well @Red maple. And how lovely to get a week off now, when it is useful @AuntyRach. Tasty looking strawberries @Pat E. Sounds like you are even more pleased with your drive @Lizzie27. We just have a concrete path from the gate to the back which we inherited. It is more like crazy paving now, but with large gaps. We can't afford to get it repaved and I grew some creeping thyme this year, with the intention of digging out the dandelions and grass (and in a couple of places - hollyhocks!) to replant with thyme. But never found the time to do it. And the thyme never made it out of its seed tray. Applaud your relaxed approach to Christmas @Ergates.
We’re back from the hospital and all went well. OH said the worst part was the injection to numb his hand. He’s been given a sheet with exercises to do and his dressing will get changed next week at the local surgery and the stitches removed the following week. Thank you to all of you who expressed good luck.
I’ve spent this afternoon writing Christmas cards and just about finished them. I’ll complete the job tomorrow.
Lots of rain today which has got rid of the snow, at least near home - there was still some lying in the fields on the way to the hospital this morning, I hope it’s not waiting for more 🤞.
Hi all Not a good day, we have both been in separate beds all day feeling very ill. I think we both have COVID, Moira probably picked it up in Scotland. No food has been consumed, but we are both managing water.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Oh dear, @punkdoc, I hope you both get over it quickly.
Pleased for your OH @Red maple that it's over and you are both back home.
OH is much better so our postponed friends are coming to dinner tomorrow.
We went to Sainsbugs to buy a white thermal T shirt for OH to wear under his dress shirt and DJ. Also to Currys for a hairdrier for me and to BeenQ for an electric saw for one of OH's Christmas presents. My hairdrier overheated, it's quite old now.
My evening dress has been ironed and hung up. Christmas cards to France have been posted.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
