  • A friend on the north Cornish coast says she’s never felt her house vibrate as much as it did last night😱 This morning she said she thought the worst had passed, but a bit later she said they’d lost all power and they’re staying offline to preserve their batteries etc 🤞

Thanks for your kind words, everyone. Thankfully, the only damage we've suffered in our household so far is extra ventilation in the greenhouse. I have heavy concrete tiles on my roof, and there's been no damage so far. All those around me with grey slates seem to be losing them.

My neighbour behind the greenhouse planted his Christmas tree in the garden about 20 years ago. It's now about 30 feet high and swaying like a billy-o. Hopefully, if it hasn't come down yet, it won't do now.

My daughter can't get out of her property as there's a tree in her driveway and another on the road. Not that she's going anywhere at this time anyway.

Some parts are being hit really hard - especially poor @Kili in the Channel Islands and others on the South coast.
We had heavy rain for about an hour from 7am, then the sun came out.
No rain since and just a light breeze atm - so a non-event here really - so far at least.

I'm waiting to hear from my daughter on the southern Isle of Wight by the sea, my son had to drive from the coast in Hampshire to N London at 6 am this morning, I haven't heard from him so hope all is ok there.

Its been  mentioned that wind speeds reached 104 mph here worse than the 1987 storm apparently.

Raining again here in East Devon. It’s not so much running down the windows as being thrown against them. They did need a clean! There is a steady droning sound from the wind, but most of it is on the higher ground than our house. The tree tops further up are waving around. All ok inside though. We are about ten miles to the coast.
A big gust has just passed by, the Scots Pines moving quite a bit. I hope that was a bird landing on the roof that I just heard. Will have to go and check. Hope everyone else is safe, esp @Kili

It was quiet overnight but it's been getting windier as the morning has gone on. It's a bad wind direction for us, so it's a bit noisy. We're about 10 miles outside the amber zone though, and so far it's not been anything more than a normal November storm. There's a lot of debris on the roads because so many trees are still in leaf. Or were, anyway. Think it's passing south of us (Exmoor), in the main

  • Sorry to hear that @Kili.  Not as bad as expected for me: high winds from late last night but all over before 06:00....

More rain coming and more high winds, but overall it seemed very 'normal' so far.

I have been looking for the METO model but can't find it anywhere!

The rain has just started to ease here in South Devon, we live 14 miles south of Exeter in a village called Teigngrace.  The normal route out of the village is flooded so I drove out a different way earlier and I'm now worried if that route will also be flooded when I drive back.  I had to venture out as I'm feeding a friend's cat whilst she's away and I couldn't bear to think of them going hungry!

We’ve just had a brief shower and now it’s gone dead calm, the electricity is back on. Hoping that’s it. One rose was ejected from it’s upended pot and the fabric of the parasol (which I should have thought to take off) is shredded and in a heap on the ground. Otherwise garden damage is minimal. Hope it calms soon for those suffering.

@CatDouch if you give cats triple the amount of their daily food they will survive perfectly happily for days if your worried about getting back to them. Can’t do that with dogs, they’d just scoff the lot!

Hope all those out and about make it home safe.
