A non event here @ inland E-Sussex. Having followed the various models closely over the past week (GFS / ARPEGE / ECM etc...) I was fooled into expecting something a little more interesting.

The Met Office's METO model wins the day again with a very accurate prediction more than 24 hours in advance. Its short term modelling has consistently proved that its heads and shoulders above the others.
  • I was reading about the Channel Islands this morning, @Kili, windows blown in, walls blown over, and a poor family having the roof ripped off their house. It sounds awful beyond words.

I understand your urge to save what you can of your greenhouse, but you were wise to abandon the attempt, not risking yourself for. Keep safe.
  • Please keep safe @Kili 🤗 ☕️ 🍪

  • @Kili, that sounds really grim.  😱  Hope it calms down quickly and without too much further damage.

News reports for the Channel Islands say gusts up to 102 mph have been experienced.  Forecast for my area (Gloucestershire) is gusting to about 40 mph which is no worse than normal winter weather.  Timing has changed as originally the longer period of high wind was expected to be last night.  They are now timing it for this afternoon.

Nowhere near as bad as Kili’s conditions but it’s whipping over our far north-east corner of Spain too. Lost power this morning, trees down, heavy wooden furniture, pots and other garden stuff strewn around. Think we may have lost a few roof tiles, but much too gusty to climb the terraces to get a view. It’s warm and sunny, even the wind is weirdly warm given it’s coming over from the Atlantic. The mobile masts are clearly ok at present, since I have a signal!

Thanks for your kind words @NormandyLiz .I agree I'm staying put its just to bad right now. It must be bad St Malo area as well given that the Isle De Manche is in the Gulf of St Malo it must be bad all along that part of the French coast as well. Hope everyone's okay and not to much disruption there or where you are.

Sorry to hear of your damage @Kili, but very glad to hear that you are staying indoors now, keeping yourself safe is the most important thing. Are there any more reports from forkers along the South coast?
We have been lucky here as we just had heavy rain and pretty strong winds late last night/early hours of this morning and then all went fairly quiet for a while. Wind is getting up a bit now though and the rain has just started to pour down again. The weather forecast did say that the storm would track up away from the coastal areas this morning, travelling up over North Wales, the midlands, the eastern counties and away to visit the northern areas, so it looks as though they may be right.
