I too look in regularly, but bereavement has left me with no love of life.

    Dear @Hostafan1 😢 🤗 …

… if it had been the other way around and your lovely hub had been left on his own, what would you want us to say to him?

if one of your dear daughters were widowed, how would you hope they approach the years ahead?

It’s still very early days for you 🤗

It means a lot to me to, though there have been ups and downs in the past. I wish it had been there when first OH died, but that was before home Internet was in common use.

OH has a very heavy cold. We had a bad night. OH was coughing so I went to the guest room but it was cold. Bed warmed up as a winter duvet was on it. The cockerel started crowing at 5.30am. Then he was quiet but started up again at 7am.

We heard the fireworks last night and I could see the tall ones over the houses opposite when I went down the drive. I expect those people could see them from their bedroom windows as there are just fields behind. The village hall is quite isolated with fields around it.

    Good afternoon everyone,

yes, I agree with all that has been said about the forum. It’s a lovely place to visit. I’m a relatively new poster, too, I suppose, but have always been made to feel welcome.

It’s a very chilly day again, but also much cloudier than yesterday. It looks as if it might do something - rain, sleet or snow - but for now remains dry.

I’ve not ventured far, just to church and back. It read 6 degrees on the car thermometer.

OH and I mixed up the Christmas puddings yesterday, made our wish and left the mix to rest overnight. This morning I divided the mix into two pudding bowls and they are now simmering gently away in the slow cookers (so much better than doing them on the stove top as there is no steam or constant topping up of water required).

Sorry to read you and your OH had a bad night last night @Busy-Lizzie. I hope his cough soon improves. It’s horrible trying to sleep if you feel chilled - seems to take ages to warm up enough to go to sleep. Lots of hot water bottles and an extra blanket tonight, perhaps.

All the best to you all.

Afternoon all, not a nice day at all. It drizzled during our usual walk this morning and looks cold and grey now. I had planned some leaf clearing today after yesterday's dry and sunny weather but it's all too damp to bother. Instead I'm tucked up on the recliner with a fleece and blanket over my legs. The heating's on but I don't feel warm enough.

I echo what the other said earlier, I really value this thread and enjoy 'chatting' to you all. I find it's helpful when we discuss symptoms of ill-health and/or treatment, a kind of mutual aid society and useful when talking about family problems so we realize we're not alone.

Talking of which, I feel rather sad today as my 'best friend' died 15 years ago . She was only 64 but had a serious inherited lung disease so we knew she wouldn't live long. My father also died 30 odd years ago next Tuesday but at the good old age of 88. Remarkable really for someone born in poor circumstances in the East End of London in 1905!  I miss them both so much.

On a brighter note, the driveway contractors are going to start tomorrow - we hope!
We've moved the car, taken the fence lights down and put a temporary Postbox outside the back garden gate. I'm not looking forward to the noise levels of a digger all day but that may only take a day or two. We'll have to put the alarm clock on for tomorrow to make sure we're up in time!

@AnnaB, I also suffer from vertigo and it's horrid, had a bout last week out of the blue. Mine might be triggered by eyesight problems and reading too much late at night. The Epley Manoeuvre is very good although I hang over the edge of the bed and get OH to support my head. You would need your daughter to help you.

    Have a peaceful Sunday everyone.

    Evening folks.

Just driven back from the parent-visit runs this afternoon and it’s grey, foggy, drizzling and freezing out - horrible! Make the most of the sunshine Hosta - I hope it tops up your battery as well as your tan.

I hope everyone is cosy and having something good to eat this evening. I’m doing roast chicken for tonight and the leftovers will be made into a casserole for tomorrow, and maybe some left for lunch box too. The hospital have removed staff discount so most of us are bringing packed lunch- partly to save money and partly as a protest. It’s £4.50 for curry and chips or ‘half & half’ -  used to be about £2.50.
