Winter arrived last Thursday but my boiler serviceman got caught up at a maternity clinic on Friday. He is "due" tomorrow first thing. I have an open fire, a conservatory that leads onto the lounge that warms it up when it is sunny enough and air conditioning which is an expensive mechanism as far as I'm concerned. Today promises to be bright and sunny but we have had steely skies and spits. No real rain.
I hope your operation is imminent @punkdoc I am staving off mine - there is still some cartilage so the rheumatologist has prescribed physio sessions which come to absolutely nothing - just a waste of time. Sick of the pain.
I hope all colds and winter ails are being looked after with a good hot (spiked) toddy!
No gardening for a while. The ground is too hard and dry to pull out the rest of the aubergine and pepper plants. They'll just have to stay there a bit longer. I have spinach plants coming along. My previous plantings were demolished by snails and the spinach leaves became burnt looking. Cabbages are also developing as are the last 2 cauliflower plants although one has been attacked by the white butterfly larva, no matter how many I squish every day.
Strange expression for today: Etes-vous encore à filer, quand demain c'est la Saint André! Then I will tell you what tomorrow is for Saint Andrew!
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ All is white outside … everything is covered with a thick layer of hoar frost … it looked beautiful in the light of the full moon earlier…
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Another sunny, but brutally cold day, I had hoped to do a bit of weeding, but I think the ground will be frozen. Must get out though, the sunlight is so important for raising serotonin levels.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Frosty here too but not a hoar frost. We are quite sheltered by trees.
If you need a hip replacement @tui34 don't hold off too long, incase there is a waiting list. It's due to wear and tear in the joint so I don't see how physio can help. It made it worse for OH. I think it was a delaying tactic by the NHS.
OH slept better, I think the antibiotics are helping. I think it started with a cold, then he got a secondary infection, bacterial bronchitis.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Managed to finish my bed and plant my garlic and onion sets yesterday. It has been raining almost daily for the last two months. Slept well last night.
Morning all, Sunny but very cold here. Unfortunately the digger has broken down again (really....?) so the driveway men haven't turned up yet. They have however left some of their stuff here and have arranged for the tarmac to be laid on Saturday so we shall wait and see. I inspected the drive yesterday after they'd gone home and found several largish roots coming from the NDN's bushes so got my lopper out and cut them all out back to the boundary line.
Not sure what to do today, it's a bit too cold outside for any gardening.
Glad your OH had a better night @Busy-Lizzie. We thought the same about the NHS physio sessions, a delaying tactic. It was actually the private physio who insisted Peter should contact the GP again about a hip operation.
Frosty morning which has led to (so far) a bright sunny day. Hung my Mother's washing out at 8am. It is unlikely to get fully dry, but it should significantly decrease the time it has to spend in the dryer.
Hopefully your OH will continue to improve @Busy-Lizzie
@Lizzie27 I hope your driveway is completed successfully on Saturday.
Hope you are continuing to have a wonderful holiday @Hostafan1
I wish as little pain as possible (and ideally none at all) for you @tui34
Best wishes to all.

All white here although I don't think it is going to stay. Grey skies again. OH who follows the movements of the sun for his radio activities says there's going to be a big solar storm hitting the earth on the first of December. Fear not: we are consistently bombarded by the sun, this time a little bigger offering lovely aurora borealis. @Badly_Maintained wow! washing out to dry in this season!! You can forget it here by mid September 😀. Anyway, good for you to enjoy mild weather in Ireland. Hope you get answers soon @tui34. It's bad enough to be in pain without being delayed by physio that, according to others, is only a delaying tactic. I wish you all the best.
