Hello @coccinella, we decided to just have our drive re-tarmaced as when we researched the two surfaces, resin or tarmac, we came to the conclusion that resin hadn't been around in the UK for long enough to fully have faith in its longevity as compared to tarmac. We were also put off by the warning in the booklet we were given not to continually to reverse round in the same place all the time as this might cause the surface to break up. This was important to us as we reverse down the drive and round the side of the garage, in order then to drive forwards into the road. There is no alternative.

The cost was also a consideration for us, given our age, we didn't need the surface to last longer than us! The cost for resin was nearly double the cost of tarmac. We were also mindful of the fact that most of the drives along the lane are tarmaced so it's more in keeping.

The driveway people haven't yet turned up, phoned this morning to say they had a problem with the digger so wouldn't be here till midday. They'd better hurry up.  Grrr

    Cold, grey and wet here.

OH's cold seems to be going to his chest and his cough is worse, I'm worrying about bronchitis. I've been trying to ring the surgery but the line is always busy, so I took OH to the surgery. He sat in the car and I went in. The receptionist said I should have phoned as they don't give same day appointments when you go there in person! She asked me to explain and it was only when I said that OH is over 80 that she became helpful. She typed his symptoms into the computer and said the duty doctor would ring sometime today.

He told me to sleep in the spare room again, so I did and I had a much better night, slept for 71/2 hours without going to the loo!

I prefer chocolate to cheese. I like cooked cheese as in a topping on baked dishes, but OH doesn't, he prefers it raw. I like soft creamy cheese, he likes hard cheese.

@Ergates our cottage in Norfolk is surrounded by neighbours' trees too. We can only glimpse the sunset. I like most of the but I hate the NDN's Leylandii which blocks the sun on the south side and is very close to the boundary fence so it drops dead bits all over the back patio.

  • I do hope your OH is feeling much better very soon @Busy-Lizzie … please pass on our good wishes.

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you’re all keeping warm. It’s been absolutely freezing here, especially today. I bought a new fluffy blanket for the bed which I put on last night, it’s absolutely wonderful and very thick and cosy.
I still haven’t managed to plant the tulips though, I’m quite late this year. Hopefully I’ll get the chance sometime this week.

Afternoon all, the driveway men finally turned up at 2 pm and currently there is a  pneumatic drill being used right outside the window. Good job we've got double glazed windows!

Had a rather concerning telephone consultation with my GP just before lunch. I apparently have some 'nasties' showing up in my blood tests which will mean six monthly monitoring for the forseeable. Unrelated to the Polymyalgia and blood clots in lungs previously diagnosed back in July/August. I'm thinking positive in that I'm lucky the problem's been picked up early. Fingers crossed.

@Busy-Lizzie Do hope your OH gets some help today and that he gets better soon.

My brother was hoping to be discharged today but I haven't heard yet.

Thank you @Lizzie27. We too would be first in the street if we go down that route, but for us it is a lot cheaper than tiling which is what they do here. Thick tiles I mean, very German looking. Stone is expensive nowadays not to mention having to break up the old stuff. Our driveway is small, straight down from the road, no turnings. Mmmm.

    Evening.

Just put the recycling out and it’s freeeezing out! Forecast says 4 degrees overnight but it feels colder than that already. Early start tomorrow so not relishing that. Chicken stew on the hob for tonight though.

I hope everyone is doing ok and has gloves and scarves at the ready (not @PatE suppose).

Not what anyone wants to have a new medical thing to think about @Lizzie27, but good that it’s something that can be monitored.

A doctor sent a prescription for OH by email and said antibiotics were ready to pick up at the surgery. I've picked them up, hope they work, he's very chesty and sounds like a frog.
