From my garden yesterday - the only rose in bloom with a frozen pond in the background.
I haven’t pruned anything yet. I’m planning on doing it next week when the weather gets a bit warmer. Some of the roses already have a lot of new growth which will have to be cut off… Elizabeth below:
I’m getting slightly envious seeing here all the bare roots coming in… but I am determined not to get any more roses this winter!
@cooldoc I see you’ve managed to get Jude! I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on its scent:)
Thanks Marlorena and Cooldoc, my mum, who has dementia, got pneumonia but is now out of hospital and my own health is gradually improving after a bad bout of flu and bronchitis. There’s a lot of that stuff about I hear.
I managed to get the rose pruning finished, but more of a hack back than my usual considered shaping. Don’t expect they’ll mind. Still lots to move, shovel prune and repot, but haven’t quite got the strength for that just yet..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Very cold & frosty here. Heres my rose pruned garden, with a couple of bonus 'helper' cameos (shes compost eater #3, the two boys are always eating things!) pics, and a distinctive new stone ornament I had for Christmas!
Atleast Leafy Tiger offered refunds and came clean about it, rather than shipping some other rose instead..
@Oliya I am too looking forward to it.. here's hoping none of them are mis labeled specimen..
@Nollie glad both of you are ok.. take a break until the weather warms up a bit.. Bronchitis cough might be annoying for a bit longer even if other symptoms have settled..
was it a light prune this year @JessicaS I did that to some of the roses last year, not sure if they were any different from the heavily pruned ones.. the first year ones with minimal pruning did well to flower in 2nd year though..
@Nollie, good to hear that both you and your mum are feeling better.
Not having great time myself either. First my daughter caught flu and it took over 2 weeks to recover then I caught it. Hopefully I am past the worst and will feel better soon. Job search also not going great, there aren't many jobs in my skills so I am learning couple of new skills. Whole thing is going to take couple of months.
I haven't got time to prune anything. I guess it will be March pruning again.
Camellias have started flowering and tomorrow I will click and post some photos. For me this is the start of a new year 🌸
