I've still got some roses putting out buds but most of them aren't opening unless I cut them off and bring them indoors. The only exception at the minute is my best performer this year: Stanwell Perpetual. Even though the foliage is starting go, it's still flowering.
Don't grow up - grow sideways.
Gardening in the West Midlands on a mix of neutral loamy sand & Victorian building rubble.
^I remember that as having a long flowering season. Some growers say otherwise but not my experience.
No need to worry about heat in the N.W. re plastic pots. I sometimes move mine from the Greenhouse in summer as it's far too hot there, otherwise not something I concern myself with outside. It's rarely hot enough, for long enough, is it..
@clematisdorset No, not really, unless they suffer any dieback, which they might, but there's no harm in going over them again in Spring. I like to prune back to where the most vigorous shoots are growing.
People often comment on the forum that metal plant pots in the UK are a bad idea as they heat up too much. I always wondered if people have seen evidence that this is a real issue here or if it's just an idea.
Excellent @Marlorena, @Lizzie27. I'll have to go counting tomorrow 😊 Looking forward to seeing big, big numbers 😀
I've made a start defoliating the roses and clearing the debris in the pots. Some roses are still growing buds, though they're mostly getting spoilt in the rain. Some like Golden celebration, LoS, Chandos Beauty etc. have a few flowers. Here is CB photo taken yesterday, still with a nice scent.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Under 80 despite new arrivals, I think, Marlorena, possibly closer to 70, as I have been having a clear out of various ones I didn't quite like enough.
I'd love to see everyone's lists if people found time to type up their inventories.
@WAMS won't take me long. The Country Parson Blue for You Midnight Blue Open Arms Little Buckaroo Unknown orangey red rose in the front garden that was there when I moved in (12 years ago) and is still a spindly bare legged mess.

How many roses do you anticipate starting next season with? including pots..
After getting down to below 30, mine have shot up again and I now have..
52 .. [13 Austins]..
I use my roses as means to get to sleep sometimes - do a mental walk round the garden, counting them and remembering the names. Beats counting sheep!
52 is a goodly number.
