Please can anyone advise about whether or not it’s ok to prune roses during frosty weather? There seems to be a lot of conflicting advice. Climbers and shrub roses- all are David Austin English roses.
Prune away, never had a problem with pruning all weathers and temps for last 30years.
@clematisdorset, they are two separate trellises, tied together at right angles by small black plastic ties and secured at the foot by tent pegs. Bought from that very well known diy company. I only just got them in the back of my Fiesta!
I have recently received a bare root rose and before I had a chance to plant it the temperature has dropped and the ground is frozen, however, they are due to rise again shortly. How and where can I store this rose temporarily please?
What a TCL haul @cooldoc, I had a pang of regret that I cancelled mine and that I no longer have Blue River. I hope they do well for you so that you can show us My WS2000 looks like Nollie's, it was new last year and needs topping up. I hadn't noticed until seeing this photo funnily enough.Bought a potted Eye of the Storm in Trevor White's winter sale. It has arrived well sprouted. Glorious sunshine and I pruned most of the pots still to do. I have started to be ruthless with those still blooming. Golden Beauty was one such.
Thanks for the pic @Tack I too gathered it should have more thorns than the specimen sent to me from Tanya's Garden.. I will compare with your pic tomorrow..
I don't have such dilemma a yours as none are in bloom.. but many did start sprouting again.. not sure how the negative temps will affect them.. I am holding off pruning only because I feel they might be forced to put out new growth..
@Meomye most bare root vendors say you can leave them up to a week in the same bag they came in, unopened in a cool place.. If the weather is expected to warm up then soak the roots in a bucket of water overnight.. I wouldn't leave the bucket outside if you are expecting freezing temps at night..

I'm very pleased with them so far.
