  • Im not sure I’ve ever needed to do much watering at this time of year before now either @Allotment Boy  :/  Glad you had a good trip 😎

Well, all is quiet here 🤞 Watering and harvesting has been done, house tidied and a big lasagne made. Coffee made … I might just put my feet up for ten minutes 🛋

My best wishes to your brother @Lizzie27 - a worrying time for you all.

My daughter lives on a road with a primary school on it @Dovefromabove   That road is quite narrow and there is always chaos at drop-off and pick-up times.  Parents like to get as close to the gates as they possibly can.  I can't remember ever being taken to school by my parents.  I walked with the little girl who lived next door (a year above me) and then my brother (two years below me) and then we got the bus to the grammar school.  But yes, a lot do drop off their children before continuing on to work.

Glad you are home safe and sound @Allotment Boy.  They got it right in the old days with those big stone walls and small windows.

A local roundabout here was sown with wildflowers a couple of years ago @plant pauper - it looked lovely.  But the parish council didn't pay for its maintenance so this year it has been more of a sorry mess.

I've just filled up my watering can from the butt for the house plants.  They much prefer that water.  It gets transferred to smaller cans for the house.

    Far too hot for gardening.

We lived in a cul de sac when we were first married (first OH). I liked it as no through traffic meant it was quiet.

Tomorrow I will be staying with Daughter 1 near Poitiers as it is oldest grandson's birthday party and he wants family to come. He has asked me to make a cheesecake so I'll do that this afternoon.

I've mown the lawn, the donkey paddock and the orchard with the tractor mower, blades raised a bit for the latter two. I've pruned the last two lavenders and that's it before I leave for England. I've packed up bedding to take to D 1's tomorrow as she won't have enough. Others are bringing some too but sometimes it's hard to fit the children, the luggage and the bedding into the car. Sitting room has been dusted but it was hardly dirty.

On Tuesday I'm flying back to OH in Norfolk. I hope the forecast rain happens next week but CB says he'll do watering.

  • Is that the roundabout where the seeds were donated by High Ash Farm as a tribute a woman who died in an accident @didyw ?

No Dove - it is the Chicken Roundabout.  Various groups have tried to get permission to have some kind of chicken sculptures on there but either the local parish council or the county council raise objections.  Too distracting apparently.  The wildflower seeds were donated and sown by Clinks Care Farm.

Why is it called the 'chicken' roundabout?

What an unusual back story - you live and learn. Thanks Dove.

When you think of all the other statues, sculptures on roundabouts across the country it does feel a little pathetic of the local council to turn the idea down. I'm sure Milton Keynes once had their concrete cows on a roundabout!

  • Phew, Scorchio! I  moved the remote temperature sensor to the patio table, it's under the shade of a canopy,  max reading 33.4,   🥵 currently  down to 32.7. Didn't get to plots yet will go late when it cools down a bit more.
