I'm the only one awake here, so have crept downstairs and now eating cereal on the sofa, too hungry to wait any longer! To be fair, the others sat up late chatting whilst I went to bed earlier. Don't seem able to stay up late any more. It looks cooler out with a breeze so hopefully a good journey home later.
That is such a nuisance @coccinella, hope you get it sorted on Wedesday. I had the same thing happen to me, many years ago. I'd arranged for a GP to remove both my little toenails permanently because of problems with them but when it came to the actual minor op, she suddenly declined and said it wasn't necessary after all. I was furious.
Good morning everyone, phew a good deal cooler here but still another hot sticky night, had to get up twice to cool down. We have a funeral to go to later. SIL's father. Not unexpected but again another set of unfortunate circumstances, he was being treated for infection, but then treatment withdrawn, and sepsis ensued. Seems to be happening too often recently.
Back from Daughter 1's, grandson's 18th birthday weekend. He started Uni last week and loves it so far.
It was pretty hectic at but they coped amazingly well. As well as family D1 had invited a few friends. There were 16 small and middling children and 18 bigger children and adults. I knew that because of setting 2 long tables (trestles with paper table clothes) for lunch yesterday in their huge open plan sitting dining room.
The children had a great time. The older ones camped in the garden in tents and the littlies shared bedrooms with their parents. A friend had a camping car. D1 had borrowed loads of crockery and cutlery and everyone helped with washing up and food preparation. D1 had made several huge Pavlovas, chocolate cakes and several hake and salmon terrines, bought 4 roasted chickens, masses of sausages and loads of steak that her OH BBQ'd. She also made salads, tomato and mozzarella, tabouleh, rice salad and green salad. Good thing they have a large cool larder and 2 big fridges in their old French farmhouse. All for lunch and dinner on Saturday and lunch on Sunday. We ate in the garden on Saturday night, when it was cooler, about 10pm.
Grandson, opened his presents. He was delighted with the mountain bike that I had joined with D1's MIL, D2 and S1 to buy.
I slept for only about 2 hours on Saturday night as the festivities went on until about 2am then 2yr old grandson, Charles, woke in the bedroom next door thinking it was day time. He was very noisy and overexcited, poor Emilie, trying to calm him down. Then the cockerel next door (owners were away) started up at 4am. Also, the bedroom was a bit too warm.
I was a bit worried about the drive home but I was OK. Got back last night.
It will be the last very hot day in Dordogne today, much cooler, maybe storms, tomorrow. Good, I can wear jeans to the airport tomorrow which means I can wear them on the way back in October, unless there is another heatwave.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I will never forget the Lancaster bomber flying loooow over us for the Queen's Jubilee. What a sound! One of the organisers had a hot line to Bomber command who phoned him on his mobile afterwards saying - was that all right? Sure was!
Hope your tooth gets fixed soon @coccinella! Rinse with warm salt water.
I awoke early, made myself a cup of tea and took it back to bed to finish reading the book for bookclub tonight (Confessions of a Bookseller - resonated a lot with me from running the little craft shop I had for a few years and to things that happen in small towns).
Evening all, we're back home after a much cooler journey from Leics. Done over 400 miles (even so, not as far as your journey Busy-Lizzie) - a long way to go to spend just half an hour with my brother. in the hospital. Still, I'm very glad we went.
That sounds an 18th to remember @Busy-Lizzie - who did all the washing up though? Time to relax now before your long trip back to Norfolk.
That's very worrying @Allotment Boy, as you say, seems to be happening far too often these days and there's no excuse for medics missing the symptoms, although I'm aware that it can happen quite quickly. My sympathies for your SIL's loss.
We've got a busy day tomorrow, I've got a bone scan due at 9.20 am, then the cleaners arrive, followed by the gardener at 1.30 pm followed by friends coming to stay after lunch. Think I'm all organised!
Overcast but warm with sunny afternoons - no rain but we may get some this weekend.
What a lovely party for the young 'un @Busy-Lizzie !! I hope you get some answers from your dentist @coccinella This seems to be turning into a saga.
Dermatologist this morning to freeze burn off the keratosis on the back of my hands. I also have one on the end of my nose - that's going to be fun explaining that one over the next couple of weeks.
That party sounds simply splendid @Busy-Lizzie. 🎉 Best of luck with the dentist @coccinella 🤞 and hope your treatment goes well @tui34 😊
Definitely cooler today and the app says we have 100% certainty of rain later on. Just as well I got all the bedlinen and towel washing done yesterday. 😮💨
Handel’s Harmonious Blacksmith on R3 ❤️. I do love the harpsichord … I used to work in an Early Music Centre where we had two very fine ones and we had some amazing internationally famous players come to perform on them … i frequently sat in my office and heard them ‘practicing’ hour after hour … marvellous.

Morning folks. It's been a while. Finally got my script sorted out. Had a few day trips with the grandkids, steam trains. Now the reason for the busyness!! After quite a few months of deliberation we have a puppy! Red white border collie called Ruby, collected her last week. You remember we lost Leo in January, not far off his 18th birthday. I tried a huge amount of rescues. As soon as you do a Google search, you get England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.was prepared to accept any breed, hubby didn't want a male, didn't want a staffy. There's a huge amount of male staffies! Every single one had behavioral problems. Must be the only dog,no other animals, must be rural home,2mtr fencing, not walked near other dogs, people, bikes, cars, reactive. No visiting children. I tried a well known border collie rescue place, filled in the adoption forms twice, never even got an acknowledgement. Let me tell you ... getting up in the night to let Ruby out for toileting purposes, has cured my insomnia, I am staggering off to bed by 10.30, up what ever time with her(unfortunately my bladder kicks in first,so I carry her to the bathroom enroute) and go back to sleep pretty quickly. A friend said hubby should take a turn, but he gets really ill if he doesn't get 8hours plus sleep or has to get up(like when he took me to hospital in May) I sleep very little as you know, and did 30 years plus of nights. Hope everyone is reasonably ok. Meant to rain today.
