Was gardening this morning when a flock/swarm of Red Admirals descended on the garden, must have been 20 of them, it was lovely in what has been a poor butterfly year.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I've had a lovely peaceful day in the garden and so far - I don't even ache! Think the steroid pills must help the old bones in some way. I started by re-staking and tying in the verbena bon. I usually cut it down when it starts being blown over but last year saw a goldfinch eating the seeds on a bit I'd missed so though I'd leave this year's as long as possible. I also weeded the purple slate path, under the bench and attacked what I call the 'Rough Patch' an odd, steep bank behind the bench. Nothing seems to work well there and it usually looks a mess. I console myself the wild life might like prefer it.
You have had a action packed day @Busy-Lizzie, glad the internet/tv been's sorted. We thought we were going to have trouble with our new digi-box but it seems to be behaving itself now.
Is it an organised rave @D0rdogne_Damsel, I don't think I could stand the racket all the time. Are you near enough to walk to your local village, your location looks intriuging.
A beautiful sight indeed @punkdoc, I've never seen that many so you're very lucky. I noticed today that there seem to have been more butterflies around.
I should have started counting at the beginning of our walk this morning, but I have never seen so many Red Admirals before. There were groups of three or four at a time, licking the hazel tree leaves, ripe blackberries, and that ivy like plant with the unpleasant smelling green flowers ? Briony? I must have seen a minimum of 50 on an hours walk, they were all over the place. Also saw a huge flock of small birds in one of the fields, but I haven’t managed to identify them yet. Markings very like sparrows without the dark heads, but bigger, and with a yellow streak on each side of the wing. That’s reminded me to get the book out to check.
I have toothache. A while ago a tiny bit of a molar chipped off making a small gap between it and the next tooth. Dentist son said to keep it clean. I don't know whether I've flossed too much and cut the gum or if a little bit of food is stuck or if an infection is starting. I won't see son until mid October and there aren't enough dentists here. They are all private but I would have to go privately anyway. A dentist in the local town charged OH £1000 to remove a tooth. Son said that was extortionate.
A quiet day I think. Grey and windy outside, doesn't look very inviting and I have Strictly to watch.
I'm slowly getting round the garden, weeding and trimming and tying up. It's not too bad though. Shouldn't be so many leaves on the lawn now that neighbour has had his goat willow cut down. I must hose the sawdust off the long border today. It shows how many cobwebs there are.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning everybody, disappointed to look through the window just now and find it's raining heavily. Such a shame after a lovely sunny day yesterday. Still I've got indoor jobs to do if it continues.
That's a nuisance @Busy-Lizzie, have you tried a warm salt mouthwash? Sometimes helps I find.
OH is still asleep, he was an hour and a half late getting home yesterday evening, lots of slow traffic on the motorways and one diversion. I was getting quite worried - and hungry! He enjoyed his day out at his old school but some of his stories about his old schoolmasters are quite hair raising, none of this health and safety or safeguarding in those days!
Dark and miserable here. Is anyone else cold? Already starting to get anxious about next hip, you would have thought that having had one, I would be more relaxed, but no chance.

That's really good news for your son @Dovefromabove.

I think I'm getting too old to be out until 3.30am.

ouch @Busy-Lizzie … I hope the tooth settles soon. I wonder if it would be worth trying Sensodyne Rapid Relief toothpaste https://www.sensodyne.com/en-gb/products/rapid-relief-toothpaste/.
