So sorry, @plant pauper. Always a shock even when expected. Hope the next few days go as smoothly as possible, and you get some well deserved help from the rest of the family. Will be thinking of you.

Sounds like you had a great time, @coccinella! All went well, sounds magical!
Lovely blossom, @Pat E. I remember when I could buy delicious Nashi pears in the supermarket, but haven’t seen them for years.
Great that Charlie is settling in well, @D0rdogne_Damsel, hope things will improve with his dad. Is he too far away for Charlie to spend Saturdays with you, and go to his dad for Sundays?
OH awake and watching the Japanese Grand Prix qualifying. It should be finished in time for us to go out at our usual time. Predicted dry here today. Might try some gardening later, two empty green bins to fill. In a moment, I’ll get up and put some beef skirt and red wine in the slow cooker.
Hope all the sore arms settle down. Mine is completely back to normal since Covid jab on Tuesday.

    Hi all

Sorry for your loss, @plant pauper, but maybe for the best.
No side effects from the vaccine, so far, except for a sore arm.

So much unbelievable sport this weekend, that I doubt there will be time for anything else.

  • My arms a bit sore too and woke me in the night @punkdoc but nothing more. 👍

I’ve just read that @Simone_in_Wiltshire has been knocked down and injured in an accident  https://forum.gardenersworld.com/discussion/1070439/plant-id-please-what-does-this-front-garden-have-to-offer#latest

    Morning everybody,

My condolences @plant pauper, always a bit of a shock even when expected. I echo Dove's suggestions, do let the undertakers do all the organisation, it's much easier.

And best wishes for @Simone_in_Wiltshire, that must be so painful, take it easy and make sure you get adequate pain relief from your GP.

Blimey @Dovefromabove, I'd love to watch that procession go through, what's the chances of it getting stuck somewhere though! Probably make the national news.

@D0rdogne_Damsel, glad Charlie likes his new bedroom, the 'rave' certainly sounds interesting! Is there a possibility you could get the parent-sharing agreement varied a bit more in your favour? Charlie must now be old enough to have his  own say on it surely?

OH has gone off early on an Open Day visit to his old school in Elstree, rather him than me, I have never wanted to re-visit my school, don't think I enjoyed it much.

It's sunshine outside but feels a bit chillier this morning. I'd better get cracking and fetch the paper, then I want to do some tidying up in the garden.

    Have a good weekend all.

Condolences @plant pauper, I hope you are doing ok at this difficult time.

It’s one of those beautiful Autumn days here - twinkling dew, sparkling webs, and blue sky a contrast to the trees starting to change colour.

Very sad news @plant pauper.  Hope having the family around will be a help.

Had a busy few weeks, but finally have a sunny day with no plans other than to get out in the garden.  Some weeding to do (a couple of bad patches in the flower borders), some squash, pumpkins and butternut to harvest and then clear those beds.  Also time to pick the last of the tomatoes and chillies and get the greenhouse clear.

Our Japan Rail passes arrived this morning, and we were winners in a ballot to go visit the Tokyo Fish market at 5.30 one morning…..so thats all coming together now too.  Monty’s book is finished and I have a long list of gardens to visit (all saved on google maps) ……getting very excited.

Flu jabs done (had to pay) but no Covid one as I am only 26.5 😉.
  • Sincere condolences @plant pauper I hope more of your family "step up" now.
Another bright start here but we have had a few of them recently but it's turned to heavy showers in the afternoon. We have our covid jabs booked for tomorrow morning at a local pharmacy (yes it's Sunday).
Expecting garden men to come and summer prune the Bramley apple.  I  know it's a bit late but as they only do the occasional job for us they can be hard to pin down. . It's a job I can do and have done in the past but they are so much quicker than me (3 of them 1 of me) plus having had a couple of slips in the last year my OH  is not keen on me clambering about 20 ft up in among the branches.
