Sounds like you have a busy day in store @Lizzie27, hopefully the weather will hold for your gardener to get some tidying done for you especially after these winds we seem to be having. Loads of rain and wind here yesterday. Tree down across our narrow lane down to the village so daughter, who was off to the main town, was forced to turn back and head miles out of her way up the road to the village across the mountain. Same again when she returned some 3 hours later as tree still blocking the road. Still that is the consequence of living up in a forest I suppose. About a mile down our lane, where the down hill meets a short flat area, we also get a very large car bumper and door level water splash every time we have heavy rain. There is a drain hole but this gets blocked by all the mud and debris flowing down the hill. It catches many folk (tourists mostly) out as it is right on a corner and not too visible from either direction. Us locals are always ready for it and get time to slow down, engage second gear, and drive steadily through without creating too much of a bow wave. Lots of interesting obstacles to be found on roads when living in the sticks!
Gosh AnnaB - that sounds like a lot to cope with on a regular basis! Trees down always seems so eventful doesn't it? Our local news likes to show pics of them when it happens here.
The meeting last night was also eventful. Quite strong feelings about what should and shouldn't be included in our new Food & Drink Trail. This is aimed at visitors to the town to present them with our very excellent food & drink offering, in an entertaining manner. But people with other businesses (not food & drink related) also felt they should have been included because 'they do so much for the town'. And other food businesses that are struggling should also be included because they need all the help they can get. They are struggling for a reason! Our criteria was - would we recommend this business to a visitor and feel confident that they will have a good customer experience? As usual, the critics, having been previously too busy to get involved, jump in towards the end when others have done all the work.
It was indeed a busy morning so much so I forgot our own 27th wedding anniversary! I had a card and box of chocs for OH hidden away but there was so much going on this morning it completely slipped my mind. We had a good giggle about it later when I finally rememberd.
The gardener arrived first so I helped her to prune the overlarge Ispahan rose on the rose arch - which was nearly horizontal in the wind yesterday. When I say I helped, I stood at the bottom of the stepstool to secure it and she climbed up and down. After she'd gone I got the long handled apple picker out and picked all the apples and all six pears! Think the pear tree will have to go as that's three years now of poor harvests.
The cleaners did their thing so that's all good. When they went, I drove quickly down to the shop to get the paper and then OH's friend stayed for a quick snack lunch. I think I rather overdid it so now having a quiet afternoon. It's looking like more rain soon.
Stick to your guns @didyw, the experience needs to be good for visitors.
@AnnaB, I don't think I'd enjoy living where you do!
You're all such a busy lot, hard to keep up. Hope Rob's not not hurt himself too much @Dovefromabove, he must still be quite vulnerable.
Charlie is back from school this tonight, it's all a bit tricky as alternate week-ends he has more/less time with one or other parent, it's my 'short' week-end, which I do get upset about, I have to work all day Sunday until 6pm, but his dad counts that as 'my time', it certainly make my 'short' week-end even shorter. I have Saturdays off but his dad says it's not fair if I get every Saturday and he just has Sundays because shops are closed. Charlie says he never takes him shopping anyway....Charlie and I are trying to keep the peace but before long I can see Charlie taking more control over where he spend his time.
We have just finished decorating his bedroom a my new house (finally). It will be the first night he has slept in it this evening, he is going to be so thrilled. We are still waiting for the electrician to fit the lights and he has a chest of drawers to build yet but that'll have to wait, he has to go back to his dad's Saturday morning and won't be back here until after 6pm Sunday, then of course back to school Monday am. Makes me so cross his dad won't be flexible. Grrw. Anyway, I am making a big Cottage Pie so we'll have a cosy homecoming tonight and he can go up and sort out his clothes and his computer and hang his pictures, he is going to be so happy.
Have a good day all, catch up later I hope.

I hope Rob is better this morning @Dovefromabove and not feeling the effects of yesterday as I was earlier.
Really pleased with myself yesterday as I did some sorely needed weeding whilst the ground wa soft. Luckily, I had to stop as the trailer is full. 3am this morning in agony. Serve me right, but glad all the same that "some" of the big stuff is out.
Nice too get garden and house spick 'n dandy @Lizzie27 Sounds like a bit of a squabble there @didyw Always the case when there are too many fingers in the pie. Lovely huge bedroom @D0rdogne_Damsel Love the exposed beams. Nice space for Charlie. I thought his Dad was going to live in Italy?
Invited to lunch today with lovely english friends down here on holiday. Looking forward to catching up!
The dismal weather has departed - big fluffy clouds in the blue sky so some sunny weather forecast.
Semis à la Saint Maurice, récolte à ton caprice! There are still vineyards being harvested , so I hope their wine is going to be good this year. The machines don't often harvest during the rain, for fear of getting bogged down.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ A still morning outside … a change from the gusty winds we’ve had earlier in the week.
Thanks folks for your concern about my son; after a sleep he was fine … went off to work and came back with no ill effects other than a bruised shin and a scraped elbow. In fact he’s quite pleased that he was quick enough and strong enough to save himself.
That room looks lovely @D0rdogne_Damsel … a perfect den for a young man. Don’t worry about his dad trying to control things … he’s making a rod for his own back … Charlie’s a nice young man and is trying not to hurt his dad, but as he grows up he will only take so much, and he’ll do what suits him best and choose where he wants to be. 👍 Your relationship with Charlie is great so you two will be fine. Try not to let his dad see that it matters to you. He wants a battle that he thinks he can win … don’t give him the battle he wants … ultimately Charlie is the one in the position of power and there’s nothing his dad can do to change that 🤗 ☕️
I’ve got to get up and get ready for a trip into the city this morning. I’ve my covid jab booked for 10.10. … then I’ll head for the farm shop. First I need to drink this coffee …

Things have taken a bit if a turn here. Mum had a seizure in the early hours of Wednesday morning and was rushed to hospital so I fully expected the usual drill of a couple of days in hospital, lots of tests and then home. It seems that this may not be the case this time. The doctor suggested that we send for my brother and my niece, my ex SIL was already here, and now we are waiting to see which way mum decides to go. My poor niece goes on holiday on Saturday so she stayed with her granny till 2.30 this morning in case it was her last goodbye. We'll see. The others were totally shocked when they saw mum all frail and small and my bro says he wouldn't have recognised her, hardly surprising since he hasn't seen her for years. I'll sort out the menagerie and head off to the hospital soon but first coffee.
