I suppose there couldn't have been an insect in the grass that bit or stung you, Hazel?
We were just about to go out to lunch when we saw several workmen gathered around a hole in the grass verge. I asked one who they were and he said they were installing fibre internet. Then the man in the hole said he was from BT Open Reach and he was mending the phone line for No ** - our house number. Apparently we have an ancient aluminium wire that needs replacing, but they probably won't.
We went off for lunch and enjoyed it as usual, came home and Internet and phone were working. We thought "Hurray". Now nothing is working. โน๏ธ๐๐คฌ
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good grief Busy, that would totally do my head in not having a decent internet connection. Fingers crossed they soon get things sorted for you. I am signing out for tonight people. I've just put my bin out and was rather disconcerted when I didn't see any other bins. So much so that I had to come back in and look at the calender to see what day it was. Anyway, I haven't made a mistake, phew! See you all in the morning. Enjoy your evenings.
SGL, I hope the little poppets put smiles on your face for today. x
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Busy, no, not that I was aware of. Didn't feel anything bite or sting etc. There was nothing there. Hope it ย starts clearing soon. Good to hear you've enjoyed your lunch out but not good that your internet etc has gone down again. Annoying.ย LB, I've been thinking it's Thursday all day. You're not alone. Raining again at the moment, we had a good downpour earlier on this afternoon, bouncing against the windows.
First of all - best birthday wishes to you SGL. Ihope that being with the family gave you things to smile about today๐
Hazel - so sorry to read about your poorly thumb. My first thought was that perhaps you had sustained something like a paper cut along the length of it after combing your hand through the grass. We all know how disproportionately sore those can be even though there is little visible injury. If a bit of sap / dirt etc entered the wound it might explain why it seems like it's infected. Hope it clears soon.
LB - glad you found someone to take care of the tree. Busy week for you coming up.ย
Surprised to hear that most of you are unable to get Covid jabs via your GP. I rec'd a 'planning' text back in August asking if I wanted one and I think the idea was that they were trying to plan how much vaccine to order and how many mass sessions to organise. All booked in for 25th Oct.
We've done a good days drive today and are now up at Mainz. I shall be visiting the Gutenberg museum and the romanesque cathedral tomorrow. We did cycle in this afternoon for a quick recce. Mainz describes itself as having a quaint old town full of timbered buildings. To be honest it's not as nice as I'd hoped. Seems the RAF and / or the USAAF did a pretty thorough job in the 1940's so it's a mainly late 20thC concrete shopping centre, with some reconstructed medieval buildings. Nice enough, but not the intimate ancient town I was hoping for. Hopefully the museum will be interesting - looking forward to seeing some very old books.
We're both feeling a lot better now but still not 100%. Both quite tired and without too much appetite. If I tell you that the mere thought of a German beer, or a G&T makes me feel quite nauseous you know there's something not right. Bottle of (full fat, sugar laden ๐) orange Fanta is the only drink I can face at the moment. Even tea is hard work...
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Ante so sorry to hear about your stay at the vets sad to hear that. ย Sending good wishes. ย Rosie
Lily Happy Birthday ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ฅโค๏ธ to you. ย Hope you had a lovely day. ย Hazel I hope the antihistamine has helped and the itching is subsiding. ย I hope someone can tell you about the grass on here. ย Topbird I hope your appetite soon improves no wonder youโre tired. ย Do try and eat to keep your energy going. ย LB body clock rather out of kilter just woken up and about to make a cup of tea. ย Rosie
No broken skin @Topbird, it would be easier to accept probably, if there was. Just hoping it'll ease soon, if not, will seek advice from the chemist. What a shame the town wasn't up to expectations but I hope the ย museum proves a bit more interesting for you. Whatever you and your OH have had, it's certainly impacting on you and taking its time to recover from. Not fancying a G and T?๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ Goodness, you're definitely not right ๐คญ๐ฅด๐๐ Ante, a sad tale about the cat but probably the most humane thing to do. ย Am I right in thinking your sister has now returned home? Apologises if I've got the wrong. Hope she has enjoyed her visit with you and that you've both had some nice times together.ย
T'Bird, oh my goodness you must be poorly. It will pass and the first G&T will be like nectar of the Gods. Bit of a shame about Mainz but hope today is more captivating. Please don't come home orange!
