OH was commenting the other day about his slippers/shoes .We have purchased some more slippers from the same place as the last time we bought some .He was saying how kind it was of TBird to research that for us .He hasn’t forgotten.
LB, gosh, you must have had some torrential rain to fill the car ruts. Is your driveway gravel? It should soon drain away with that. Yes, we got some new grasses, three Imperata Red Baron( I think) plus Chocolate Candy hardy geranium and two Cineraria. When we got home, the sun was blazing with blue skies so we got everything planted out. However, shortly after that we had a shock downpour of heavy rain. As quick as it came it quickly stopped. It's refreshed everything but also flattened some😬
Topbird, the Facetime idea is a good one and one I had thought of a little while back. I'm going to try and set it up at the Home( have seen them about it and mum can use their internet ) but Mum isn't able to work the iPad now. She had no idea when we first got the iPads so now would be impossible for her. I'd have to rely on the Carers so will see them about his. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Busy, OH and I are hoping to carry on staying at mum’s house until it's sold. I've asked brother to leave bed and fridge ( from being cleared out ) until the last😲😂
Rubee - that's so nice of your OH to remember when he is going through so many trials. I think I've mentioned before that my friend has severe lymphodaemia and she too has had a couple of bouts of cellulitis. Serious, painful and difficult to manage in equal measure. My very best wishes to you both. x
Hazel - I think many care home staff became very used to helping residents with Facetime calls when visiting was virtually non-existent. I do hope they're able to help as I'm sure it would help your mum and maybe also allow you to better monitor how she's doing🙂
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Thanks @Topbird. It would be ideal over winter and as you say, will help me to monitor mum when I can't see her in person. My brother won't be able to visit in winter so I need to set something up to benefit mum and myself( very selfish I know but you know what I mean). Safe journey as you head back to the UK.
For anyone interested in painting, note that on Sky Arts, 4/10/23 at 8pm, Portrait Artist of the Decade begins. Should be interesting.
Morning all. Hazel I did watch the portrait artist of the year sometime ago, interesting programme. LB just woken up and had some tea. Lily I was looking at all the crafters on line and there are some very talented people, interesting to look through. Ante hope you have rain. Rosie
Rosie, we have very simple routine here. Or we don't have rain for months, or in one day we have amount for whole summer. That's happened yesterday. Now is just drizzling, but last night was downpour.
Rubee, hope your OH better, I was sorry to read that he was again in pain.
I have an early start this morning, but don't have anything special in plan for today. It will be just resting. Last three days I was every afternoon at cottage to finish some jobs before heavy rain. My backs are bit tight. SM near my house will be closed next week (new one will come after New Year), and they have huge sale on everything. I need few things but it's incredible crowd last few days, so I must think once more about going there. First tea.
After the tedium of the first week back in work, it was another quiz night at eldest's church. An improvement on last time - joint 2nd. Also, a spot prize for nearest guess on the distance (in kms) between the church and Newcastle, New South Wales! We got this based on one of our number saying a Kirsty MacColl song mentions 12,000 miles to Sydney. I reckoned that would be an exaggeration and/or not based on the "as the crow flies" distance we'd been asked for, knocked a bit off and did the conversion calculation.
Forecast is good for today so I should make the most of it.
Happy Autumn solstice Rosie, Ante and one and all. I had a text from my Sis yesterday - they are now in Lille for England's match against Chile today and she told me it was pouring down there as well so I didn't feel quite so bad about the rain and wind here
Safe onward journey T'Bird - hope the FIFO cunning plan succeeds.
Hazel, my drive is block paved with cobbles and, yes, the water will drain away well, but it just showed how much volume of rain had fallen. Both my water butts are full to overflowing. Sounds like a lovely idea to get a Facetime situation set up for your Mum. You went to town at the GC didn't you? A great collection of plants there. I never had any success with cineraria as they were plagued with leaf miner in my garden.
Ante, be careful with your back - I speak as one who knows how awful that can be. At least you have now had some refreshing rain for the remainder of your crops. How are your young trees coming along with the rather strange weather conditions we have had this year?
Weather permitting, I will walk up to the village this morning for the flu vaccination. I received an NHS reminder text last night where I was told 'Entrance will be via the chemist front door.' It made me smile as it sounded like a secret message. I should point out that the chemist's adjoins the surgery but I never knew there was a connecting interior door. That will be interesting.
