Ay up @Biglad, you sneaked in there! You could have put me out of my misery and told me the answer you gave - to save me having to look it up on Mr Google you understand!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
LB, thanks for reminding me on the first day of Autumn, my favorite season. But next week we can expect return of summer with wonderful 30โ + temperatures. My young trees are all fine except blue spruce. All 15 seedlings are dying, but Canadian spruce looks fine.ย
Oh Ante, that is such a shame about your blue spruce trees. That summer heat was extraordinary though. What a beautiful view from your window. I actually find it very restful. It might be slightly different when it is a stormy day though!

Morning all. Ante, what a gorgeous view out over the harbour. Hope it doesn't distract you when teaching๐ย
I am a little narkedย off this morning. Upon checking my British Gas on line account, I see that our direct debit ( for gas) hasn't been applied since July. No Chat Bot or Customer Service now available until Monday morning.๐ก This has never happened before so I have to come all weekend until I can get it sorted.......bah.ย
I am going to go and prune the Griselinia to vent some anger...
Good morningย Itโs a lovely morning (well, almost noon now), so Iโve got some cloth things drying on the string outside. OH is busy cutting the grass. I collected a few more tomatoes, thereโs just a few left on the remaining two plants which I will collect later in the week. They are nearly all just about ripe. The rest will come in as well and can ripen on the window sill. Iโve been pleased with the crop despite the slow start. Less successful with the chillis which ripened but something got inside most of them, boring a little hole and eating from within, so I ended up with about 4 edible ones. A similar story with the apples - not so many this year but also most were attacked by beasties and munched from within. Oh well, thereโs always next year. I guess thatโs just the story of gardening ๐. Itโs been an odd season this year.
I would agree @Red maple that it's been an odd season this year. Our poor garden doesn't know whether it's spring or summer at the moment, let alone Autmn. My OH is out, too, cutting the front lawn but the skies are darkening here so trying to get it done quickly. Think we are forecast some rain later on. Ive just potted on( yet again) some for gloves which were outgrowing the pots. a finished the pruning of the Griselinia and also given the Pittosporum a tidy up. Anger vented so all good again๐คญ๐ Indoor jobs to be done now.
Afternoon all. On the ferry waiting to depart. Managed to blag an upgrade to the lounge again so currently enjoying a glass of wine and nibbles. Managed pole position on the car deck again as well!ย
Ante - sorry to read about your seedlings but it's been a tough year for them. Glad you had some rain. However, all at once is not so helpful. Quite glad we missed that! We've brought home some Istrian premium olive oil, whole black truffle and lovely floral honey. We will be reminded of our holiday for many weeks to come.
We've also got far fewer apples this year than last and two of the crab apples (both Evereste) which are normally laden with fruit, are completely bare. Red Sentinel and John Downie are both ok. I suspect fruit trees went into survival mode last year in response to the drought and are having a year off in 2023. Fingers crossed things ar back to normal next year.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

We guessed at 17,500kms and we think the answer was a shade under 17,000kms.ย
