Morning all. It was a colld night but the sun is coming out now. Feels chilly though. Rubee, thumb is a lot better this morning, thanks, I put ย some antiseptic and anaesthetic cream all over it last night so had a better night from the itching and although still swollen, the redness is subsiding. Hope you manage to get out in the garden today, SM trip for us this morning, then a delivery, the son popping in on his way home from a Course at work. Plus, I am currently awaiting a telephone call from the Clinical Pharmacist at the surgery, so busy day ahead. LB,have a nice day with bestie, hope she likes the cake!
Morning everyone,ย Thank you @Songbird-2 that is so kind of you. Do hope your thumb feels better this morning. Sounds like a nasty reaction.ย Thank you everyone for all your birthday messages and messages.ย I had a good day with family and the poppets certainly helped me through the day.ย @Topbird sorry to hear you're feeling poorly on holiday. Hope you feel much better soon.ย @Ladybird4 that sounds an awful amount of difference in price from the tree surgeon. I've been wondering if I should get someone to look at out oak tree. Does concern me how much they would charge ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ Have a good day everyone, take care.
Had a day in Mainz. The Gutenberg museum was very interesting. Mainz was the home of Johannes Gutenburg who invented the printing press in the 15thC facilitating the 'mass' production of written documents and books.ย Lots of very early printed books to look at (testing my Latin...) including 4 original Gutenberg bibles, and also quite a few early, handwritten, illuminated manuscripts to show how the 'new' printed books deliberately used exactly the same layout and typeface as the medieval scribes so they looked handwritten.
So many of the items on display are true works of art and many of the early reference books (atlases, anatomy etc) are really, really interesting to see. Really enjoyed it.
Finally found the 'old town' ๐. It's a tiny part of the city centre comprising two or three cobbled streets lined with wooden buildings. Quite picturesque and home to an authentic Italian restaurant where we had a spot of light lunch. First meal out since Saturday so๐ค
We're now hunkered down for the evening as rain is threatening and it's getting quite stormy outside.ย
Hope BL's internet has been fixed. Also hoping mine is OK at home. They were replacing telegraph poles in our road yesterday so the power was off all day. Hopefully the router has rebooted itself ok - it's controlling our security lights ATM.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Hello all. Well I had a very hairy (Ante = alarming) drive to Bestie's this morning. Road works with temporary traffic lights (nothing new there then!) the only problem being both sets were on red continually. Drivers were just taking the risk and going for it. Eventually I joined in a stream of traffic - behind a big lorry and went through. When I got to Bestie's - having called her from the car as I was very late - her daughter said it had been on Facebook.
Cake went down well with everyone and we enjoyed our gossiping. I was not looking forward to my return journey but couldn't go any other way without going via John O'Groats! Luckily, the bad publicity worked its trick and the lights, cones and barriers had been removed and I breezed through.ย
When I got in I discovered an email from Spooksavers to say my next eye test is due. I got it booked in on the same day as my blood test so that sorts that appointment out. What were you saying earlier Hazel???ย Oh and tree man number 2 is coming on Monday to do the work. I need to move some precious cyclamen before he starts on the lilac.
Glad you enjoyed your day T'Bird - means you and your OH are just about over the tummy bug. It must have been awesome seeing original Gutenberg bibles. Brilliant invention - the printing press.

What a day LB and more to come! I've jinxed it...oh dear...๐ฒ๐sorry..... Our busy day has come and gone and am now getting my mind set on things to take to mums and what to do whilst I'm there( I'm hoping to at least clear mumโs bedroom of all the stuff๐ข will try and bag as much up as I can and bring it all home and sort it out here, quietly and take my time with it).ย
Have spoken to mum but she seems to be sleeping a lot now and still not sounding quite the same yet as to prior to having covid. It's probably taken more out of her than initially realised.
My brother is going into an almost personal lockdown come November, due to his health problems and won't be able to visit her. As we head for the Winter months we will not be able to get over to see her much either. It's all very hard.
Apologises for sounding a bit glum.
Topbird, those books sounds excellent and I'm pleased to read that you've had an enjoyable and interesting trip round the museum and even managed a little something to eat at the Italian.
Tired now so will sign off for the night. Hope everyone gets a decent sleep.
A very good morning all. Decided that as I have a mad few days coming up I would make an early morning dash to 'sco - should be nice and quiet. Hope that your thumb has recovered now Hazel. And now where is that list?
