Morning everyone.Β You're early birds @Ladybird4 and @wfnp5bk4spsSNFYKh1 Although I've been awake since just before 6.Β Feeling cooler this morning and looking very autumnal outside today. @Songbird-2 hope your thumb is better this morning.Β Have a lovely day everyone, take care.
Good morning Rosie - mission accomplished and it poured with rain the whole time I was out. I might try and do some decluttering today. I won't be going to Canasta as it is no fun waiting in the rain for a bus. Thats my excuse anyway!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Good morning everyone .LB you are going to be very busy .Donβt forget breaks for a cuppa . Hazel I hope your thumb is feeling better .Lily are you gardening today? I have missed several days because of the rain .OH is not good .He has cellulitis again .Unfortunately it is something that happens with Lymphodoema.
Morning @Rubee sorry to hear your OH isn't feeling very well today. Hope he isn't in too much discomfort. Sending you a hug. No won't be doing anything in the garden today, it's very wet from all the rain thus week. So glad the boys cut the grass for me before the rain arrived. I have a feeling that could possibly be the last cut this year.Β
Morning all. Rubee, I'm so sorry to read about your OH. Cellulitis is painful, so trust he is on antibiotics? My mum said to me the last time we visited.." life is a bugger Β sometimes". It certainly is. Take care and I hope he responds quickly to any treatment he's given. My thumb, in comparison, is nothing. ( although it is improving daily now).
LB, you were up early , I was still asleep then.
Β Do you remember me telling you that I went to a councillors ward meeting about a property not too far from us? They ( the council) Β are applying Β to change the residence status? I noticed yesterday, that since I put in a formal written objection, the tally was then 25. Now it is 97. I certainly hope the council take note of all these objections.Merry Hell is being raised about it. I brought up the fact that our homes have a Covenant shown in the Title Deeds which the council seem to be blatantly Β ignoring. Closing date for submissions is 29/9 so will be keeping a sharp eye out after that to see what the decision is.Β
We are going to visit a garden centre today so that will be a nice change.
I'm using my French mobile phone as it is the only thing that works here. OH has gone to the next village to use his mobile. It doesn't have a signal here. A man from BT came yesterday. He had something that told him that the fault is 23 metres away, which is where the telegraph pole is. He said they need a cherry picker but it will be tricky because NDN's hawthorn tree is in the way. The cherry pickers were busy yesterday. He said it may be sorted in a couple of days.Β
I know how you feel about your Mum, Hazel. My Mum was in a home in East Sussex and I was in France. I used to fly over to visit her. I was in England the week that she died. Her house wasn't sold until after she died so I used to stay there.
A chimney sweep came this morning to sweep the wood burner chimney, so we got up a bit earlier than usual.
This evening we are going to a concert of opera arias with a buffet dinner.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hello all. What a shocker of a day. My drive is underwater in the ruts made by car wheels. I should add its not too deep to present a problem to my house.
Shopping was good this morning but I was reminded how much I dislike (and avoid) driving in the dark and the rain. Returning home was better as it was lighter of course.
Ruby, I was sorry to hear that your OH has had another flare up of cellulitis. I do hope he has managed some rest today.
Hazel, I do remember you speaking of the change of residence. Sometimes you just think that you are banging your head on a brick wall. Did you manage to find some more grasses at the GC?
Busy, I did smile when I read the bit in your post about the chimney sweep as an instant vision of Dick van Dyke popped into my head and has lurked there all day! Enjoy your night at the opera. Not somewhere I have ever been - or wish to go (without a general anaesthetic) but everyone's taste is different and the world would be very boring if everyone liked the same thing.

Evening all. Another day of driving progress and we're now very close to the Dutch border. Just 2hrs to the Hook of Holland tomorrow where we catch the early afternoon ferry. Will set off early in the hope we can be at the front of the queue. Last time we had pole position and were off and through immigration and customs before anyone else even got off the boat!
LB - your drive yesterday sounded a bit hairy and you've obviously had a bit of rain. Hope we've had some too.
Hazel - just a thought re your mum. While you're up there, is it worth explaining your family situation to the residential home staff and asking if they would help your mum with Facetime calls? We did that with FIL when he was 200 miles away in hospital (and then a hospice) during full lockdown in 2020. Think it was good for both sides to see a friendly family face - even if on a screen. I have no idea of your mum's capabilities with IT but, after initial hiccups, MIL's (age 88) are now pretty hot and we Facetime her everyday. SIL Facetimes in the morning from Australia and then we do it at teatime. Never much to say but she really appreciates that twice daily contact. Just a thought.
