    Happy Birthday @star gaze lily.
Can't get phone to send a card. No Internet so no Laptop. At least you will be with your family. I hope your Poppets make it a happy day.

    Morning all.

OH is taking me out to my favourite pub restaurant in Suffolk for lunch today. It was going to be my birthday meal, but as I managed to get an earlier flight here we also had a meal on my birthday.

Morning all. Very windy here but warm. We need to pop into town this morning so it will be a quick visit.

Funny thing happened yesterday, I had just got off the phone to my brother( not good news there😢) and my attention was immediately drawn to the fact that one of my thumbs felt funny. In front of my eyes, it started swelling up, really itchy and the red mark beginning to go down my thumb. I hadn't drank or eaten out of the normal so wondered what on earth it was. Took antihistamine and out some cream on,which seemed to ease it. I thought maybe I'd been bitten in the garden, but no red spot or puncture wound.

It drove me mad during the night, itching and this morning morning the whole thumb and knuckle are swollen and red, hot and itchy.

The only thing, now, I can think of, it's that I was showing OH an ornamental grass in the garden, yesterday,  which has grown a lot and the leaves are sharp , like scissor ends ,when you run your hands through it.. which I did. Could it be an allergy to the grass? If so, it's coming out. Can't even remember the name of the grass though so the only way to test the theory is to run my fingers through the grass again😬Don't fancy that.

We shall see what today brings.

@star gaze lily, this is a first for you, and I will be thinking about you and sending lots of hugs and positive thoughts.

    This is the grass….

Any ideas what it may be? Thanks.

    Hello everyone,
I’m sorry @Songbird-2 but I don’t know what the grass is, but I’m sure someone will be along who does. I hope your thumb starts to feel better soon, but perhaps a trip to your local pharmacy might help - they can perhaps advise on some treatment for it, especially as you say there’s a red mark running down it.

Happy Birthday @star gaze lily. I hope you have a nice day with your family. 🎂💐.

Good afternoon all. Second tree man arrived on time (in the pouring rain!) and quoted me a costing 2/3rds less than what the first tree man mentioned. No brainer there then but it shows I am clueless as to how much these sort of jobs cost as I thought yesterday's was OK and within what I had budgeted for.
I was given a huge shopping bag full of apples from a friend on Sunday. I processed half yesterday and the other half today. Took an age but I will be able to survive on apple crumbles all winter! I've also made a toffee cake to take to Bestie's tomorrow. She is a bit fed up because the probate on her partner's house is taking forever!
Goodness me Hazel, that is quite an alarming story. If that fluffy 'item' in your picture belongs to the grass then it could be one of the pennisetum family. You haven't handled any other plants like ivy or hydrangeas, as these can cause allergic reactions. It is rather strange that it is only your thumb that has this swelling when you ran your whole hand through the grass clump

I managed to get my covid vaccination booked today - got a few mad days coming up: this Saturday is flu vaccination; telephone consultation Monday; blood test Tuesday; covid vaccination Wednesday; hairdresser at Bestie's Thursday and visiting my Canasta friend Friday.

Blimey LB, that's a busy week coming. Funny how everything always happens all at once.
I'll google that grass name and see if it's that.  Yes, I did touch the grass with fingers as well as thumb so, if it is the culprit, it's bizarre it hasn't affected my fingers too. But I  can't think of anything else it could be. Yes, the fluffy thing in the pic is the seed head starting to come out.  Glad you've got a reasonable quote for the tree. When is the chap coming to do it? Your poor bestie, it takes an age to go through probate doesn't it? Never ending, but I'm sure the lovely toffee cake will cheer her up.
Red Maple, Ive take an antihistamine this morning but it's itching like mad. I'm keeping an eye on the running redness but it seems to have stopped at the base of my thumb now.,

Tree man hasn't mentioned a day yet Hazel. I told him about my busy week so it could be some time after that.
I do hope that your swollen thumb shrinks during the night and does not keep you awake by itching.

It's driving me bonkers LB. When I get it wet I've noticed it burns like mad ( similar to an oven burn). After possibly finding the culprit, and identifying another similar grass in the garden ( after reading up on the grass you mentioned ) we are pretty sure it is to blame. ( I did remember touching the seed head😬) . Anyway, OH has  taken them both out ( he touched a leaf and felt a sharpness and prickling too) and we are planning a trip to a garden centre on Friday to look for a more upright grass with softer leaves.
