Morning everyone, sorry to hear about your brother @Dovefromabove.
Very warm yesterday at Capel Manor, and warm overnight. This humidity is making us feel very lethargic, but we have to get on because we're getting ready to go to Edinburgh next week. Haven't been for over 4 years, so lots to see and do. OH has put her back out too so not the best preparation so far ah well.
We have sunshine again and it's quite warm but there are now some clouds looming.
We had a smashing meal out last night, I had chargrilled chicken thighs with spicy cous cous, tenderstems and pomegranate molasses. OH had a pear, radiccicho and blue vinney cheese salad and daughter settled for a wild mushroom risotto, followed by double choc brownie (I took half home, it was massive!) while OH had sticky toffee pud, both with vanilla icecream as we're not a fan of salted caramel icecream. I did take a chance and drank a small white wine spritzer with my meal (I know you're not supposed to drink alcohol with morphine and/or co-codamocol) but suffered no ill effects. This morning I took the morphine patch off at my GP's suggestion so will monitor how I feel over the next day or two - well, I hope.
Daughter's going to take me out for a light lunch and perhaps some shopping, we'll leave OH here in peace. Then we may be able to do some gardening jobs together, well, I'll tell her what I need done and she'll do them for me!
Sounds yummy @Lizzie27, think I would have had the same as you.
I've been scanning photos from my old albums for an album for Son 2's birthday. Taking ages, not done yet. It's a nice day, I should be outside. At least we had lunch in the garden, just half a ham and cucumber sandwich.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Sorry to hear your sad news, @Dovefromabove. Very hot and sunny here today. Awake in the night, loud music from a party up the road, still going strong at 1.45am! We got out to the garden straight after breakfast, OH cut back some self seeded laurel bushes, a gigantic pieris and a totally out of control arbutus. I managed to make decent inroads into a bramble thicket before the sun stopped progress. Gave upon time for a late lunch, and then a decent nap. Will try and clear away the pile of debris ready for shredding.
Have had a lovely day indulging in some retail therapy with my daughter - just what I needed. Started off with a light lunch at a local farm shop which specialises in their own soft cheeses. They just happened to have some plants for sale as well at very reasonable prices so we bought two each. Then we drove on to Aldi so I could have a wander down the 'Special' isles and picked up some bits and pieces as well as a large bag of half walnuts, far cheaper than Sainsbury's one. Finally we ended up in a big B & Q where I bought a watering can to add to my collection, a tiny LED torch to keep in the suitcase and a shower caddy. It was a nice day out, the kind my OH doesn't do!
Got home and found a big parcel waiting for me, more goodies as in new towels and bathmat for our refurbished en-suite and a thin white cotton dressing gown to also keep in my suitcase. The d/g I keep in the suitcase is now over 50 years old and getting fragile but I love it, it has a big red dragon beautifully embroidered all over the back.
So sorry to hear your sad news @Dovefromabove. But from what you say - he made the most of what he had. Must run in the family.
Have read back as far as I could. Hope @Hostafan1 managed to get his grass cut and pleased to read that @punkdoc has been wielding his secateurs. I don't even know where mine are at the moment!
Still a few days of wrapping up. We not only had the Festival, we had a pop-up shop for the duration too, so that has had to be cleared and now I am facing having to pay all the artists/authors who had work in the shop (minus our commission of course!).
I was in the city yesterday too Dove - a quick dash with one of my fellow committee members to pay in the cash generated over the course of the Festival. A tidy sum but thank heavens for card payments, so much easier to deal with. We grabbed a coffee (the Old Bicycle cafe) and lo and behold someone else from the Festival passed by so another chat about it all ensued.
It all feels a bit strange now - much like actors feel after a theatre run finishes I imagine.
I finished work a tad early to get some gardening in (or at least sitting in it) but only managed a cuppa and it rained. Rain forecast all weekend pretty much boo 😒

@Allotment Boy my mum broke her leg just before going to the Edinburgh Tattoo. Genius! As you know Edinburgh is bumpy and hilly as well as beautiful and cold. 'Dad the intrepid' discovered that you can borrow wheelchairs from the Red Cross. That might be worth looking into for your missus rather than be confined to the flat easily accessible bits because there aren't many.

Flopped out now with a cuppa!
