I sowed loads of flower seeds in that bed - cosmos, cornflower, zinnia, nigella, etc. - in the spring. Periodically, I've seen a few tiny seedlings pop up and then swiftly disappear overnight. The cyrils obviously didn't fancy a tomato seedling and let it grow to maturity.
I read somewhere that tomato seeds can survive the entire sewage system from mouth to wherever and are well capable of surviving the average home composting system. Tomato seedlings were a regular addition to my borders until I stopped adding unripened tomatoes to the compost bin.
Come to think of it they were often as strong as, if not stronger than, properly 'nurtured' plants. Maybe I need to do a little wild planting again...
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
I just came home from my neighbor. We had a lovely chat and small drink. It's very warm evening, and crickets are still loud. Tomato seeds can survive many years and still sprout. I watched on YouTube gardener who sowed 87 years old tomato seeds and all five seeds sprouted normally. Seeds was displayed on the wall of Lancaster county seed company all that years, and yet produced healthy plants and fruits.
It's rare that tomato seeds would get as far as the compost, but a few must have made it To survive the brians, cyrils and shauns is pretty impressive.
We had a lovely time with Son 2 and family, 4 small sons and one small daughter. We had roast duck with apricot and rosemary sauce. DIL had made ice cream and crème brulée. We ate in the garden.
I mentioned that I was thinking of buying a new oven as my oven's grill doesn't work and it won't heat up properly, I have to turn it up to 220C to get it to 180C. Son said they had an almost new oven in the garage as they had a new kitchen last year and they changed the oven. They gave it to me. I'll try it out before I get the electrician to remove the old one from its housing.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good morning everyone. I had have a cheeky text from my Australian niece in law who made comment about the upcoming football match and how they want to 'beat the poms in another sport this year'! She did say that they were praying for a fairytale finish. I want to get my SM visit over quickly so I can watch the match.
When I was studying, my group went to see how a waste water treatment plant worked and the chap there told us about tomatoes actually growing down in the sewers. That is amazing about the 87 year old seeds though Ante.
Sounds like you had a super day Busy and how lucky to learn of the spare cooker. Fingers crossed it works well and you can get it all connected up.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
LB, come quickly from SM and enjoy watching how you team beats those from down under. 😂
Bussy, how nice that your son has spare oven. One cost less if it works.
Outside is same as yesterday, warm with wind. It was enough of rest, so I'll go to the cottage. My plan is to sow radishes for autumn. I didn't learn my lesson from last year, and I bought again a lot of seeds. Maybe next year.

It’s decades since I have been for a swim.I used to go with a friend for a swim before breakfast every week .I miss that .Ante enjoy your day .Don’t work too hard .I am sure the seeds that you don’t use will keep until next year .

That'll be a result if the oven works out, @Busy-Lizzie
Looks like it could be another good day, weather-wise. Better make the most of it.
Too much chirping from Australians at the moment so hoping they're brought down a peg or two later
