Thundery showers between 10am-7pm and a moderate breeze. Not very promising!
Hoping for a Jabeur/Alcaraz double over the weekend.
A couple of days ago we got a revision to our energy bill. After several years of being continuously in credit and refusing to adjust our payments (I've moaned about this previously on many occasions, you may recall!), they've been pretty swift to increase our payments by £70/month as soon as we owe them money. I'm only too willing to play a small part in maintaining the obscene profits of these organisations. It's not as if the populace is facing a cost of living crisis is it
Good morning Debs. I'm glad that your workplace is a happier place now. Long may that continue. You must have enjoyed Thomas' company.
Ante this is what is said by some in the UK on July 15th which is St Swithin's Day.
St.Swithin's day if thou dost rain For forty days it will remain St.Swithin's day if thou be fair For forty days 'twill rain nae mair.
Whilst the rain is essential I am not sure I would want 40 days of it. You may feel differently. Similar things can happen here when a casually dropped cigarette end can start a severe moor fire. I just wish people would THINK!
@Biglad, that would be my perfect finale for this year's Wimbledon - time will tell. Don't get me talking about power companies (or internet providers!) my canines have only just receded.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Morning all. Dry and windy here too but warm. We are going to one of our favourite gc's this morning, just for a browse around you understand 🫣 🙂 We do have one or two gaps in the borders so........ Debs, glad work was better with the bonus trip home. Ante, thank goodness you're okay but such a dreadful time for those who have lost their homes. @rowlandscastle444, I would like Alcatraz to win personally.BTW my mums brother was called Rowland and our neighbour is called Rowland. Is it you?!😂 Biglad, our fuel company has just tried to lower our monthly payments to a ridiculously small amount, so I've gone on line and upped them again.
Ooh I did enjoy that second match yesterday afternoon - some spectacular tennis. Bodes well for Sunday. I suspect that at least 95% of interested Brits will be hoping for the same results as Biglad.
Debs - glad work is a little easier for you ATM. Our dispensary has now introduced a 24/7 dispensing machine for non-refrigerated and non controlled-drug prescriptions. Rocking up at any time for a 2 minute wait to collect my prescription is so much better than the hour plus wait we had to endure a few months ago. As more people use the machine the number of people using the dispensary is reducing and there appear to have been no queues at all on my last couple of visits.
Hazel - you must be so relieved that your mum is doing ok. Hopefully, being with other people will be a stimulating and happy experience for her and will give you some long term peace of mind.
Ante - it sounds as though things will be unpleasant for you over the next week. Please don't make yourself ill. The wildfires are a frightening phenomena. When we had the prolonged drought and extreme heat last year we had several big fires in this area and several homes were lost. We are surrounded by fields of cereal crops and I became increasingly worried about the risk.
We had about 8 hrs of beautiful gentle rain yesterday. So very precious and so very much needed. Fingers crossed for some more over the coming days. Right now it's just overcast and the wind is picking up. Yellow weather warning for wind this afternoon - sigh!

@Biglad, that was an auto correct but I do call him that sometimes😂😂 @rowlandscastle444, ah thought that was your christian name.Soz. Topbird, thank goodness you've had a sustained amount of rain finally. I can't keep up with this weather this year, it's all over the place. Yes, it's a great relief about mum although she has always been a rather keep-to-herself kind of lady. As you say, maybe being in company now will stimulate her mind and get it going! Rubee, daughter is doing okay thank you.
Hazel, I worked for a couple of years in the Social Work team looking after older people and, of course, one of my tasks was occasionally finding residential placements. I came to realise many significantly older people fear that a residential home will be not far removed from a workhouse / 1950's type psychiatric institution.
A good residential placement in bright, warm and welcoming surroundings, where people are allowed to socialise as and when they want to and encouraged to pursue their hobbies comes as a real relief and welcome surprise.
Just the act of responding to greetings from staff and other residents is a form of stimulation which makes people more alert which makes them more interested in life which makes them better company - on and on - a real positive spiral. I do hope it works out like that for your mum🙂🤞
BL - meant to say thank you for the info about the restaurant. Thetford is a very convenient meeting point for 'The Boys' and they usually go to an Indian in town. They always say it's OK - not great - so I will definitely pass on your recommendation for The Raj.

so I am probably not your mum's brother (although I do have two married sisters) or your neighbour.
Isn't the tennis player 'Alcaraz'? Deliberate error, or auto-correct?😀
