Good morning everyone, we were woken at around 3.15 to steady rain. Got back to sleep quite easily as it had cooled down a lot. Still a bit damp out there now, not sure how much we had but all very welcome. I was at Capel yesterday very dry there too. Awful journeys on M25 both ways not sure how much longer I will continue to go , need to prioritise my own garden and plots.
Rain here rain here yesterday afternoon and evening. Not heavy but steady, so the plants are looking a bit happier. Dry and sunny this morning. Might get out to do some pruning, but will mainly be spending the day packing and fretting about our weekend away. We’ve really lost confidence in travelling since our long stay at home during lockdowns. Still, if I take enough stuff for any eventuality, then it will hopefully reduce the worry. Feels like we are heading to the Outer Hebrides, just Oxford! I do hope it all goes smoothly and boosts our confidence. All the trips we used to take not that long ago all feel like a dream.
There has been a nice steady rain here - enough for things in the garden to perk up.
OH had an appt. at the drs. for a meds review and he was planning on talking to them about the rattling cough he has developed. He's finished his course of antibiotics but still troubled by the cough. I said I didn't think that would get addressed today and that he would probably have to make another appointment. He's still not back and that appt. was an hour ago, so hopefully all is well and he was able to continue into town to pick up a few things as he hoped he'd be able to.
He's back - all this time at the doc's and pharmacy. He did see the doctor who is going to chase up the hosp. to get an appointment for his angiogram and he has also requested a chest x-ray. Laden with meds, some to replace what he was originally prescribed.
still no rain since 10 days ago. Pruned the rambler and also some of the cherry tree where said rambler leans on. Then went shopping. Still sleeping very badly but at least it isn't so hot anymore. Travel is indeed harder for us too and I am not too sure it is due to covid more like age in our case @Ergates😂. At the end of July we are driving first to London (son's stuff to drop) then to Cambridge and I am already playing in my head all the bad things that could happen on our way. Will it be hot, will it be cold, traffic, Dover queues? Will it be everything? 😖
We looked on the SatNav and it gave the best way to drive to the Showground by the main roads but we decided to take the most countryfied route. So glad we did, no traffic jams until the last five minutes. We had warnings on the local radio to say that there were huge jams on the main road. I think the Show was more crowded than it had been when we've visited before, probably because of the weather forecast. Dry yesterday, rain today. OH took his buggy and he still has a blue card for parking. We were there from 10.30am to 5.30pm, my legs were aching from all the walking. I borrowed the buggy for a bit when I was flagging. I liked the carriage driving in the main arena best. I also like the live stock and the Shire horses. Not so interested in farm machinery though OH likes it.
It rained in the night, just stopped. It all looks very wet outside so I hope it's the right sort that waters the garden properly and fills the butts.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I emptied the water butts in readiness for the forecast showers.
Not a drop has re entered them.

Husbands can be such a worry can't they?

We went to the Norfolk Show yesterday. I've put photos here. https://forum.gardenersworld.com/discussion/1075153/the-royal-norfolk-show-photos-for-those-who-like-agricultural-shows/p1?new=1
I spent some time in the evening sorting out photos. I took quite a lot on phone and camera. Phone to WhatsApp family and camera because it's best for filing on Laptop for making albums online and I can't see the picture properly on phone because in daylight it looks too black.
