Do you not think that part of that issue is number? If a person's named, then it evokes sympathy but if a number is just quoted it's a faceless blob It's been used as a technique - give something a face and a name and you evoke a deeper felt response.
My first big shocker was my first birthday card after I lost my dad. I couldn't open it for months because I knew what it was going to say and I couldn't face it written down. Daft but not daft!

Not even slightly daft. He died on August 4th last year, 2 days before our wedding anniversary.
Morning everyone. I’m trying to get my fingertips warmed up after hanging the first load of wet clothes on the line. Just waiting for the second lot to finish the cycle.
Dove, it seemed that we have another coincidence with our special days.😏
Morning all. I got up (as did the bladder) thought it said 7.30, nope 5.30, hey ho. Had tea sorry Dove, coffee is for "coffee time",that's official in Sussex) belated happy birthday to Rob,and Pat E,and one for Hosta❤️,and Punkdoc,(trouble is WE "know too much". Had my phone consult with the Endocrinologist,oh he was so sweet. He said "you know all the terminology, have you been googling?" I replied "no nursing 40 years". He said,"You're one of us then". First thing he said "How are you this fine morning", I said nervous. He put me at my ease. Went through the various tests, asked reasons for the original scan, sympathised with my severe claustrophobia. Just got a survey to fill in GP (huh) and hospital treatment, funnily enough. Can't fault them. Doggo wants feeding, have a good day,all
