@bertrand-mabel, the blueberries are cropping well now, the gooseberries were the last few on the bush. We eat a lot of veg but you're right there's more than we can get through, but none goes to waste. A lot of the fruit is frozen and some of the beans but we give a lot away to friends and neighbours. I enjoy growing it and it's always appreciated 😊

Just amazing @scroggin such a great selection of fruit and veg.

More French Beans, these plants are producing loads of beans considering what a battering they have taken due to the strong winds.

Can anyone please tell me if the dwarf varieties are just as productive, or does the lower growing habit restrict the crop size?

I have found the dwarf varieties produce much less @Sheps

Thanks @purplerallim looks like I might be growing both then, just need to find a less exposed spot for the climbing ones.

But where they are is an ideal spot @Sheps you just need to fasten the poles to the fence so they are supported. 😁

The cane wigwams are fastened to the fence with garden wire, so pretty stable @purplerallim it's just the foliage is getting shredded by the prevailing westerly wind that hits the fence barrels up the garden.

I think I'll increase the height of the windbreak and see if that helps.

I wouldn't worry too much about the leaves @Sheps as bean leaves are not the most pristine.  They tend to be a bit ragged no matter what you do, it never harms the crop. Keeping the mollusc and blackfly away are much more problematic. 🙄

@Sheps, overall you get more from climbing french beans but I still get a good crop from the dwarf varieties. The dwarfs tend to have a shorter cropping season but you still get a good crop

    Okey dokey @purplerallim

Looking forward to trying the dwarf ones next year to compare 👍
