Lovely haul of toms @purplerallim, we're away next week, hopefully my SIL will do some picking while we're away. Picked this today to take with us( there are 8 of us).
Thanks @Sheps the toms are either eaten, in the fridge, or frozen now, the ones we kept, Tigerella, Pomodoro, Sunchocola cherry and Golden sunrise. The largest cucumber is sliced and in vinegar, and half the cucumbers, with a few toms, went to the neighbours 😀.
You have had some lovely pickings @scroggin , again I wish I had as much room as you. My Beetroot this year seems to be slow going, have picked some but most are not ready yet. The spring onions are romping away, and trying for full sized onions!
I'm quite envious of all of those lovely tomatoes in the above posts. My own, grown outdoors, are still at the green unripe stage.
In the mean time there were other crops that needed harvesting:
From left to right:
Lobjoits cos lettuce - these were cropped for about 5 weeks but now needed to be cut down as they were nearing the flowering stage when the leaves turn bitter. The leaves will be cooked instead of being eaten raw in a salad. The good thing about Lobjoits is that it retains its crunchiness when cooked.
Kohlrabi - the first harvest of the kohlrabis that I transplanted in April. I also grew the purple type but they are a bit behind.
Callaloo (aka amaranth) - this is the third harvest of this cut-and-come crop. Usually, they can be cropped four or five times a year when grown from seed.
Courgettes and runner beans - they are still steadily producing.
Picked these yesterday before the rain started. In previous years I would leave the tomatoes on plant to ripen but this year it's just so slow and I don't want the toms splitting on me. For those who like sweet tomatoes I would definitely recommend honeycomb😋. Once these orange banana and Costolito tomatoes ripen l will have enough to make a dish and taste the flavor
