Just about to bake some bread to have with a ploughman’s for tea. Changed into a dress with sleeves as cooler today but I love being bare legged in the fresh air.
More golf this morning - hope it doesn't get too warm.
I've been using water from anywhere for the garden as it has rapidly got very dry. We've got a de-humidifier that sits in the bathroom (the installed one is cr*p!) and the tumble dryer is one that collects the water it extracts. Then there's the 'grey water' from the washing up bowl and, of course, the water butt but could still do with a bit of rain
PS. Didn't post this until I got back from golf - Oops!
Good afternoon all. Well, it has been overcast all day and looks now distinctly like we could have some rainfall. Nearly emptied my second water butt seeing to my tomatoes.
Ruby, it is a bit disconcerting when you cannot rely 100% on your GP but I'm glad that your OH has been treated correctly and hopefully he will be back home soon.
Oh Busy, what a time you are having. I bet you are counting off the minutes until your son and DIL are home and you can hand over responsibilty. That was such a plus point when I was teaching. I could pack all the stroppy teenagers off back to their parents at the end of the day. Don't get me wrong, 90% of my pupils were fantastic and I loved my career.
Rosie, you sound like you have been keeping nice and cool today.
Not to worry Biglad, you are enjoying your hobby which must be a great safety valve for the work stress you get subjected to.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
it’s been a much cooler day today - a good 10 degrees cooler this pm from yesterday pm. No wonder we catch sniffles. However, it has been much better for working in the garden. When I got back from church OH and I got changed and tackled some gardening jobs. I planted up a few of the plants (not all) that we got from the GC on Friday, and then I tackled the area at the back of the arbour, which was becoming somewhat out of hand. We have trailing campanula there which looks lovely but is taking over a bit, so I thinned that down. Unfortunately in amongst it was some creeping buttercup, and although I’m all for having some wild flowers (weeds😁) for the bees, etc, this was creeping just too much, so it came out (I know I haven’t got all of it, some stems snapped off, but it looks better than it did). Previous owners had also planted Chinese lanterns up in that corner, and they were taking over, too. Every year I pull them up, and every year, more appear. I don’t mind a few, but again, like the buttercup, they swamp everything else. Thankfully, they pull up easily. At least we can now see the fern and the hosta properly.
I’d intended carrying on with more potting after doing that, but my shoulders were aching so decided to call it a day and had a nice hot shower instead. It’s G&T time now 😁.
@Biglad, I hope you don’t mind me asking, but I’m curious - what does CA stand for? Caravan?
@Ante1, your cat looks very contented hiding amongst the nasturtiums.
@Rubee I hope the hospital sort your OH quickly and he is soon home with you again.
Good afternoon @Red maple. Just in case @Biglad is still improving his handicap on the golf course I am sure he won't mind me telling you that CA = Comfy Armchair.
I can totally agree with you regarding the 'wild flowers' in your garden. I have them too. I find that my geranium phaeums want to dominate the world, never mind my garden. I have several different colours of this plant and it is well loved by the bees. I also have a total thug called alkanet which has tap roots going down to Australia. That one too is beloved by the bees and I have that awful quandary as to whether I get rid of it (which is nigh on impossible) or just keep a little patch to keep the bees happy and dig out as much of the rest as I can.
