I think having a monarch is far better than having a so-called elected head of state, who has little or no experience of being in the position.
Look at the UK's record for prime ministers in the last 50 years. There have been sparkling moments of true leadership, but not many. Maybe a few weeks or months.
That's the thing. You can only elect from the candidates put forward who I doubt will be any different to the the politicians we already have, it'll just be more of the same. The monarch has had a whole lifetime preparing to be head of state and build diplomatic relations with with other nations, a president will most likely be a middle aged man with little experience for such a position. The criticisms of the monarchy are fully justified but an elected head of state is unlikely to interact with the public the way the royals do. Would they actively support charities? Create programs like the Prince's Trust or the Duke of Edinburgh Awards? Rishi Sunak is a democratically elected politician yet he brags he doesn't have any working class friends and his wife does acrobatics with her taxes (or at least did until it became public). I'm neither a royalist or a republican and the only reason I would come down on the side of the monarchy is because for me, it's the least worst option.
Celtic fans mocking the Queen’s death with chants and banners was shameful.
The queen isn't even mentioned in that video clip! They were singing 'you can stick your coronation up your arse'. :
I should have been clearer. I was not referring to the clip but to the fans’ disrespect after the Queen’s death. Much as I disliked Margaret Thatcher similar sentiments expressed after her death seemed distasteful. Adversarial comments about the Queen’s death were disgraceful.
