Good morning everyone,Ā well it's wet, very wet, but then it was forecast so , in spite of the aches and pains I'm glad I got all the rotavating done yesterday.Ā An indoor day I think.Ā
Absolutely miserable weather here today. Might make it a bit of a learning day, the thread about peat compost made me realise I really donāt understand growing mediumsĀ
I nearly forgot @Latimer Ā The recipe for the lamb marinade: Ā Here it is:
4 quarter or leg of lamb (I think it would go well with pork or chicken too) 2.5cm piece root ginger (grated) 4 cloves garlic 2 tablespoons tamarind paste or 400g pods 1 tablespoon ground gingerĀ 1 tsp each, ground cumin, salt (I like cumin so it was a "happy" teaspoonful !! 1 tsp ground pimento (I used paprika) half tsp ground cinnamon Thyme - leaves from 4 sprigs or 1 tsp dried
If you are using tamarind pods - deseed them, boil Ā then simmerfor about 12 minutes - stirring constantly until it becomes a thickish paste.
Mix paste, garlic Ā and dried ingredients to form a paste and rub over the skin of the meat. Ā Leave to marinate about 4 hours or overnight. Ā If you forget Ā as I did - it still tasted good after marinating for about half an hour!! Ā Leave the beast to get to room temperature
Oven on to 180°C. Ā
Peel and slice a couple of onions (or more) and place on the roasting dish together with a cupful of water. Ā Place the roast on to this nest of onions. Ā Cover the meat with foil (I oil the foil to stop the marinade sticking) Into the oven - reduce temperature immediately Ā to cook at 130°C for 3 hours. Ā Uncover for the last hour. Ā Keep foil. Ā
At the end of cooking recover with the foil and leave to rest about 20 minutes. Ā There will be juices for gravy and I did the usual roast vegetables and green beans to serve.
Have just given away 30 Dahlia tubers to the neighbours and shown them how to plant them, they all seemed genuinely excited, but they may just have been humouring me.
I decided I am too crippled to grow all the ones I had, although I have still kept at least the same number.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Morning all, it was very wet overnight and we still have occaisonal heavy showers although there is sunshine breaking through now. We're being lazy, reading papers, drinking coffee and eating the last of the Hot Cross Buns. I've got some washing on to get it out of the way and will wait to see if the weather improves.
That looks very interesting @coccinella, not heard of that custom before. Pretty birds would make a nice collection.
Very sensible @punkdoc, I'm trying to do the same, given up on hanging baskets, fiddly annuals and the number of pots I want. I ache today so will have a day of resting i think.
You'll soon have your OH hiking at this rate @Busy-Lizzie! Good that he can now do longer walks. Hope he's sleeping better now - and you!
Just read that the main line between Oxford and Didcot will be closed for 6 weeks because of a wobbly bridge, that will cause absolute chaos. Thank goodness I'm not a commuter!
@tui34, sounds an interesting recipe, would have OH licking his lips.
What a washout for Easter Monday!Ā A local fete has been cancelled.Ā Such a shame.Ā Not that we were going to go, but a shame for those that were and after all the organisers' hard work.
That recipe sounds delish @tui34.Ā We had roast lamb at my daughter's yesterday.Ā Very nice and it was good that the girls hung around for our visit rather than disappearing into their rooms as usual.Ā Had a few games of Uno and Rat A Tat Cat with them.Ā Heard all about the youngest one's skiing trip in Italy - she had a great time and made new friends with kids from other local schools who also went.Ā We now have a fair bit of chocolate but after that has all gone I must cut back - and do more exercise.Ā The girls are so slim I feel decidedly lumpy beside them.
Hope you will be able to rent your new house until the paperwork is sorted @D0rdogne_Damsel - looks like there is quite a lot of work to do in the new garden!
Am envious of your neighbours @punkdoc - how lucky to get free dahlias!

another sunny day before it turns in the evening. Today in Luxembourg is Eemaischen day (day of the Emmaus). It is a popular folk tradition that takes place every Easter monday. On this day you should buy a "PƩckvillchen" which is a clay whistle in a shape of a bird. Every year artists compete for new models, old rare ones go for hundreds of euros. Many stalls sell all sorts of crafty things too. I am not sure I will go as it gets very crowded and feeling really lazy today.

Quiet Easter Monday. Ā Sunny and bright. Ā Rather dawdling over coffee in the sun this morning. Ā Air coolish here though.
I hope for those that have a day off today, it will be enjoyable!
