thanks @Eustace but as Edhelka pointed out, its the compost bit that I am worried.. can't see any other reason why these roses are not doing well.. heavy terracotta pots with thorny roses.. I was struggling to get few of them off the pots during winter.. and then the topping up, nothing much to do with used up compost in a small plot..
how are they still selling bareroots..? sorry if you have mentioned before.. but what are those bare roots @ElbFee
LOS second year. She was a bit weak and produced little the first year but has filled out a bit now. I love the opening colour.
Star Performer, Chewpearl is in her third year. My only pink. The problem I have with this one is it's in a 30 x 30 pot. I won't be able to open the shed door fully if i put her in a bigger pot. I have scraped out the top 3rd of soil and replaced with a compost/manure mix each year. Feeding and watering will be important but i'm not sure how much longer i'll get away with it
I also have Fellowship and Blue For You on their way
I'll go read up on why my photo's have came out the wrong way round...
I've just seen Ronnie O'Sullivan at the garden center. I think he was eyeing up a plant.

Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Pots are tricky to keep going, there is only so much you can scrape off the top without damaging the roots, the latter outgrow the pot eventually and the spectre of repotting arises. Every year I vow to reduce them and every year they seem to multiply.
@cooldoc I do have some large ceramic pots, but glazed or painted externally to avoid evaporation. Since the early days (anyone remember my Gertrude Jekyll pot saga?!) I now find a plastic pot that fits snugly inside them. Much easier to lift them out in the plastic pot without having to grapple with the heavy one. I also double pot the plastic pots, which provides an additional layer of insulation to guard against fried roots.
The Prince is one that missed the new regime. Needless to say I keep putting it off!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
From me some deep colour roses today - Munstead Wood and Ebb Tide. I really wanted Twilight zone to complete this collection but it was always out of stock when I was ordering. May be this Autumn I will get it.
For all those who want Jude The Obscure, it doesnt flower that much atleast not for me, so new rose with so many buds is definitely an improvement on the shrub. For fragrance, yes I love JTO and that is the only reason I have bought and still kept mine.
Rhododendron coming to full flush, later than usual this year.
Everyones roses looking fab.. more to open for sure..
Waiting for Marlorena's and others summer garden pic along with perennials.. with an open house invitation ofcourse😍
Thanks for the ideas @Nollie@Eustace double pots almost impossible now as the sizing would always be a problem.. may be could paint them as you said..
@newbie77 I have heard that about JTO.. but that regret of I have not tried.... heard the same about GJ and did not want to buy as space is limited.. and again fell for the fragrance... Twilight zone was among the best performers in pot for me.. did not get very big for me..

They always sell until June in this nursery. I had a couple of roses last year from them that started of very well. But died when I was absent in August and there was no rain at all. This year all will be different. I only ordered to replace the dead Louis XIV. To justify the shipping cost I added some bare roots. OH was shocked when lifting the box assuming the 25kg were all roses. But, no, to optimize further on the shipping I added 20kg of rose fertilizer...
I bought Rose des Cisterciens, Souvenir du Dr. Jamain, Gentle Hermione, Papa Meilland (all replacing deceased) and Prince Camille de Rohan, Eisvogel, Grande Classe and Novalis. The sunking is the only rose that will be shipped potted mid June. Funny that I have to wait the longest for the original object of desire...
@Nollie I so know this feeling of wanting to reduce pots just to witness the opposite happening. See above lol.

Munstead Wood, very rarely so purple at this time of year, maybe due to a week of lower temps:
A couple of double pot examples. Plastic inner pots with rims are easier to lift out but not always possible to find the exact fit:
