That looks like an excellent magic potion @Mr. Vine Eye ,does it smell as bad as Monty says?
Scorching here today and only 10% chance of the longed for thunderstorm. I was feeling good about this trio of roses on the balcony, now I'm watching anxiously but I have shaded them with an awning. Eufemia, Gruss an Aachen, Deelish/Anniversary RoseThese seem ok too, Amulet MellaI really like Wild Rover here but the BS! Seriously thinking of spraying just this one rose with fungicide if I keep it next year.Garden roses are easier once my obliging OH has cleared space for them and irrigation is installed. Because it's aerobic decomposition in the press with no water involved. But if you make the tea by soaking in water, the anaerobic decomposition due to it being submerged ends up smelling of death/sewage.
Thanks @pitter-patter, looks lovely and climbing well. Wow, that 🎂 could grace any high end patisserie just as your garden could feature in any glossy garden mag.
@Tack I think you just have to wait and see. My heat is fiercer and it’s a case of adapt or die. 29.2c currently.
I don’t think Mme. Isaac Pereire will ultimately make the cut. I deadheaded a lot of balled, mouldy blooms after the rain. This is one was just opening yesterday and instantly drooped and shrivelled in this morning’s sun!
My new Boule de Neige. It’s trying hard from inauspicious beginnings:
First opening on Souvenir de Marcel Proust. Blooms can vary from lavishly quilled to deeply quartered to this, semi-double form:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
My mystery red rambler purchased from a street market for a quid a few years ago, now doing extremely well after a slow start...and very vigorous. I pruned some of it right back a few weeks back, but already has put on about 4ft of new growth with buds. Apart from the washing line, which comes in handy later on as an extra support, the other rose is 'Lady of the Lake' just getting into her stride...it really is a beautiful rose, very fragrant and prolific.
@edhelka the Gabriel Oak flower is amazing and big, a beautiful colour too. i like all your roses, particularly Purple Skyliner, so full of flowers. Is it in full sun?
South-facing wall, full afternoon sun. Shaded by the house in the morning.
Our promised storms and rain almost disappeared We desperately need at least something...
I moved this rose on Monday of this week. Thinking it could cope. I wanted it closer to the fence to be able to climb. I have trimmed it back but it is still clearly struggling. Should I trim it quite radically to alleviate the stress created by the blooms. Note to self to wait next until the proper time.
Flowers here are all droopy, probably to shield themselves from the hot sun. Hope it rains soon. Golden Beauty and Marchenzauber Young Lycidas Gruss an Aachen One of the amaryllis has now opened, another one is getting ready to bloom.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
