In a collage as the focus on my phone is being capricious: Pink: Boscobel (bonkers... beautiful blooms on the end of long nearly leafless stalks like insect antennae. Probably too cupped for my liking but the scent is nostalgic and gorgeous), Munstead Wood still going strong, Liliana (the best), Evelyn (smaller blooms now but they have been continuous.. a lot of new basals too), Shepherdess (no scent yet), Princesse Charlène de Monaco (excellent scent), Blackberry Nip (very pretty IRL), Eustacia Vye (much longer-lasting first flush this year and better colours in partial shade).
Lovely visit to Thoresby hall specialist plant fair today, Cottage memories were there with a fantastic selection covered in blooms so reasonable too, £12 potted! Standards were very reasonable too, £30, I was restrained considering! Had a nice chat with them too. They are growing some of the older off patent Austins for future sale! Othello and sweet Jessica I think it was.
I brought 'Millie Rose' (not aka poulsons mum in a million, this is caruth, Wekblunez) gorgeous scented big bloomed rose id not seen before. And its a wonderful life... I wasn't bothered about it till I saw it in person, but isnt this lovely? Be rude not to it was flying off the stand along with pomponella (which I have already)
I bought Millie Rose for a friend of that name @JessicaS but had to look after it in a pot for one season, it is quite extraordinarily chunky in stem and bloom and I am relieved she put it in the ground. I loved the propeller unfurling of the petals. I hope it does well for you.
@Emptyheadtime I've pruned off valuable rose basals before I knew better, only 3 years ago come to think of it. Now I just snap them off when attempting to veerrry carefully bend them to my will, yes sigh, another The Generous Gardener cane lost this week. Still, having generously given me 3 this year I have 2 more than last year.
I love your hydrangea WAMS, it is gorgeous.
Your garden is as lovely as ever Marlorena, now I realise quite how much work mature roses are I can appreciate it even more. Small ones can be deadheaded, weeded, trimmed and tidied in moments without major bloodloss.
I think conditions this year are a bit disheartening, firstly everything was a bit late then the heat made the big first flush go over so quickly. Then short rainstorms to turn roses to mush and break laterals off. And never enough rain to do the watering for me. I know; I'm whinging, I can be thankful not to have too many pests. Nollie I salute how you produce such lovely roses in your conditions.
Most pots are between flushes, I think (along with poor health) the roses with long periods without blooms will determine whether I keep them. Chandos Beauty is at risk under this criteria, along with Utopia and Timeless Purple.
My best pots currently blooming, first 3 new this year Frilly CuffMedeo. Thank you for showing yours last year @pitter-patterLoving EufemiaCarminiaEden
@Tack Your 3 in a pot 'Frilly Cuff' is just wow.. it seems very suited to pot culture that way.. I've thought about adding 2 more to my 1, but holding off for now..
@Tack it is huge, this is it next to my not that small hand! Ive got a big pot to try it in when stormy weathers planted out of it (its in a pot as it was mislabelled Ascot!), but I can put it in the ground if needed. Your Edens gorgeous, cottage memories had a gorgeous big one covered in blooms like that today, I nearly brought another! Made me think I should put mine more prominently. Ive pruned round it to give it more light / rain and its shot up a big cane in reward though, so I'll see how it does. The fairy pink out the front Loyal companion (Peter Beales) just out. Seems unfazed by heat. My 'hopefully Ascot this time' rose holidaying at Parents has flowered & from videocall image today is right this time! It looks fabulous I cant wait to pick it up. Anyone else got it?
‘32c and lashing rain’, are you sure you don’t live up the road from me @JessicaS?! Your roses look good despite that, your Nozomi standard is impressively smothered in blooms. Hoping the worst of the rain is over here now, after two nights of deluges that could have filled my water butts thrice over. Nice of you to say so @Tack, seems we are all going to have to get used to bizarre weather. Frilly Cuff looks fantastic - shame about the naff name, it doesn’t deserve it!
Spoilt blooms on first decent showing on La Rose de Molinard, fragrance still intense:

.. another stunning 'Harlow Carr'.. as a Standard.. I'd like one but in my narrow borders I fear I'd be bumping into it...
..these 3 I've been impressed with so far.. 'Sophie's Perpetual'.. which does seem to be perpetual flowering.. 'Amelie Nothomb'.. quick repeating with fresh vigorous growth..
'Lilac Bouquet'.. an impressively quick repeat with a whole mass of new buds..
Honestly @Nollie you'd think that here, such a suntrap! Nozomi is down the side a bit shadier, so less on display, but lasts way longer. Its once flowering but has lovely hips after.
Hoping to visit David Austins gardens in a few weeks! Bit impromptu visit as a birthday treat but its a lot nearer than I thought... im sure I wont be able to resist something or other! I feel left out of the Desdemona / Boscobel club
