Yes, I’d say they are old sawfly wounds, they’ve callused over as the canes have grown so look more irregular than the fresh, neat slits they make to lay eggs.
Get well soon @Tack, it was bound to get you in the end 😔
My poor roses don’t know whether they are coming or going because temperatures keep yo-yoing. They should be shut down for August but a cooler spell encouraged new growth. Then, once again, it’s got very hot and they’ve been caught in the crisper.
I posted this Lady Em bloom yesterday..
By the end of the same day it looked like this!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
How is the new garden BTW, @cooldoc? @Jess91 beautiful colours. LoS has such great buds.
Sarah from C and K Jones... a changeable rose Evelyn from TW.. stunning colour just now. The scent is interesting rather than delicious, I think. Jac du Pré from Cottage Memories... second flush... please ignore the weeds! Gert... Spacing mistake... Boscobel has become a mostly-hidden underplanting for a dahlia that grew much wider and larger than expected. I had better rein the dahlia in a bit because Boscobel is too pretty to languish unseen. Blue for You... getting some powdery mildew now but blooms on and on. Love Song from Jones... definitely a favourite Boule de Neige spam
I love all the photos on here... please keep them coming. Definitely hoping to get a Bring Me Sunshine, Mme Antoine Mari and a Stanwell Perpetual due to this thread (the culprits know who they are)...
@PeterAberdeen stunning iris @Tack get well soon! Your pots look amazing. @Rojas what a talented wee gardener you are raising.
@Nollie beautiful Lady Emma (well, before you chucked her in the fryer). Mine has been pretty disappointing in year one... a few blooms in June and no signs that there will be anything else this year. Not head over heels with it.
Hope you recover soon @Tack. ⌚ From top left: Norwich Castle, Summer Song, Golden Celebration, Timeless Charisma, Eustacia Vye and Darcey Bussel. And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Lady Em has a good repeat for me @WAMS, my new standard is coming into it’s third flush already, although I’d really rather it didn’t at the moment. OTOH Blue for You has been poor for me so far, half-size single white/pale pink blooms earlier and nothing since. Great colour on yours and Love Song. Hopefully our respective sulkers will pick up next year.

Sorry to hear your Blue for You has done poorly @Nollie , but this yoyo weather has had a slowing effect on mine too. I have never had powdery mildew on my BfY @WAMS The second round of flowers are just getting started here. The best blooms are on Sheila's Perfumed, but it's been the worse for foliage damage. The long wet spell has not been good for alot of the roses leaves. Even Desdemona has been disappointing on both counts.
@purplerallim, it’s been a tricky season both sides of the channel for different reasons, especially for new roses trying to establish. The climate yoyoing is probably only going to get worse, I suspect. I’ll see how BfY does next year, but sun intensity here is really hard on lavender/purple roses so it may or may not suit, ultimately. I do enjoy the experimenting though 😊

Thank you for the good wishes. I am a bit improved today and pottered otside for a short while. I got BfY this year from Henry's but it was very pruned so is only just blooming. I like it a lot. No mildew on that one but it is on the usual suspects like Gruss an Aachen and Dames de Chenonceau.Purple Lodge gets better and betterEufemiaSoul
..that 'Purple Lodge' looks very nice... best wishes for speedy recovery @Tack
Well, my camera woes continue and I won't be posting any more photos until it's sorted... so I'll just enjoy all yours for now.. .. I've sent back 2 new cameras to Amazon, for various reasons.. I have my eye on a 3rd which perhaps I should have got in the first place.. I loathe using a mobile phone, I cannot get the angles I want, and I'm a fusspot about it..
'Scented Garden'...

'Odelia'.. a little crisped.. 'Tottering by Gently'.. 'Comtesse Andre d'Oultremont'.. Lythrum 'Dropmore Purple' / Anemone 'Honorine Jobert'.. Aster 'Wunder von Stafa'..
Are there any ideas on the ID for this rose from a neighbour? (Label long lost). It's a profound magenta, a dark shocking pink. A very strong scent - with a touch of apple, perhaps similar to Dr Jamain. Healthy foliage. At least 20 years old, possibly a Davd Austin. Thanks
