Welcome, @ElbFee. We can still view your pics if we copy and paste the URLs. Your Blue for You is epic! What is the globular pink standard rose in the pic marked South?
And I used to teach English professionally-- yours is great. 👍
@ElbFee I meant to add, we enjoy lists of rose names, so we look forward to reading what you have ordered. Many here enjoy 'Blue For You'. I used to have it, but found it rather thorny, but then most roses are. The scent was like cinnamon/apples to my nose.
We await to see your photos with interest.. hope you can work that out.. Your English is very good, I would not have known otherwise..
Hi there, I never really post on this thread but I might get some pictures tomorrow. All my roses are quite old. The one next to my front door is over at least 40 years and probably between 50-60 yrs. They look very different to many of the roses I see monty don pruning on gardeners world so I just prune to the lowest bud that points outwards and removing any branches crossing and suckers. Im afraid to cut much further as I think it wouldn't regrow. The oldest one stands at just under 5 foot after pruning but I would be afraid to cut into the old thick wood.
Hi Alex. Welcome to you as well,.. and also looking forward to seeing your roses. You can certainly cut right back into old wood with these roses, it's surprising how they shoot out from places you wouldn't expect.. but it's ok to be on the safe side too, and we don't have to prune anything if we don't want..
Tx for your kind welcome. @Marlorena I did use the pic icon and then went to URL option as I host my pics to shrink them. But then you only see the URL. Now I uploaded from my mobile phone and can't flip them. Grumble.
Ah, yes, the list. Did I mention the seriousness of my rose bug... You are to blame for Desdemona, Gertrude Jekyll, Rene van Wegberg, Mutabilis and Blue River. Further, to economize on the postage, I ordered Maurice Utrillo, Love Song, Moonstone, Pacific Blue and Eyes for you. I was away last August. No rain here in that month. A lot of roses died, that were planted in April 2022.
That is a beautiful border and I love the way you have incorporated the Standard roses into the border and underplanted them.
To be honest I liked the 'before' picture, but adore the 'after' picture. Welcome to the group, they are very friendly and helpful. I only joined in January and have learnt so much. The only downside is that your list of roses to get will increase rapidly.
As a follow up to @WAMS comment on the South picture, can I ask what is the standard on the North picture?
@PeterAberdeen thank you re the border. The standard is Scepter'd Isle.
Please, pretty please does anyone know how to flip the pictures? Mine are all in portrait. This will be unpleasant going forward if I don't figure it out. And do you all upload directly from your storing device?
I can see the photos now... @ElbFee what a huge garden, I love the conifer backdrop and the big green hedge.
Just a tip about photos, we often have to slightly reduce the size so they appear correctly, and not sideways on.. just a slight reduction either top/bottom or right/left, and they will load properly..
Most of your roses people here will have.. I have 'Mutabilis' but other members have some others. I've been looking at 'Pacific Blue' for some time, nice looking rose.
I'm surprised you don't have 'Elbflorenz', given your name.. it's a fabulous rose at its best.. we know it as either 'Dee-Lish' or 'The Anniversary Rose', also 'Sweet Parfum de Provence'..
