@Nollie lovely purples there.. Prince was my favourite among the pics.. Pics don't do justice to Munstead wood.. those satin petals should be enjoyed up close..
@Marlorena interesting to see so many basals on your BMS.. It did not produce any for me.. looking healthy though.. it produced a 5 foot cane which was snapped off in the wind last year.. I too was disappointed with the colour.. DA eventually changed the colour description for that one...
@CatDouch just amazing to see how you have trained your roses against the wall..
@Nollie I to have Buff Beauty Nollie. It's in a large pot and in it's second year. I'd be interested to know how you find it. Mine was very vigorous and put on loads of growth, including two ridiculously long canes, during it's first year, but few blooms.
Hi @peteS, my experience of Buff Beauty in it’s first year pretty much mirrors yours - not a lot of blooms, threw out two 12ft canes. I am attempting to grow it as a large shrub rather than the climber it wants to be, but I hedged my bets because it’s in a raised bed with a fence behind.
I don’t think it’s a rose that could be kept tidy with pruning, which would be fighting it’s natural habit of sending out long arching canes. Mine would probably need twice the ground space it’s got to do it justice as a shrub and I suspect it needs three years to fully get into it’s bloom stride too.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Thanks for that @Nollie...I must say though, those extra long canes it threw up last summer made it look a bit untidy. But by the sound of it, it's probably going to be best grown as a climber. Luckily I have got a spot for that, so I'll see how the blooms it produces this summer cope with the sun and heat in that spot.
@CatDouch Your roses are superbly trained on the walls, I think you're in for a really good show this year.. The dark leaf edges are usually due to fertilizer burn, nothing to worry about.
@Nollie 'GC' not looking good, but perhaps all is not yet lost..
At Mannington, Norfolk, 'Buff Beauty' is grown freestanding, and kept to a 6' x 6' shrub thereabouts, I used to have a photo of it... maybe easier to achieve here,...?.
Very nice indeed @CatDouch, looking forward to the pictures.
Your pictures are so tantalising @Nollie, soon here too, sigh. What on earth are we supposed to make of the temperatures in Spain? Terrifying how the climate is playing with us, hope you and yours not too affected. I feel bad and very surprised about your GC, I regularly muck about with my roses out of season, to only limited ill effect.
I regularly grumble about Bring Me Sunshine @owd potter , firstly because it was not the colour advertised, then because it mildewed and then because mine has an ugly structure. Apart from that it's lovely
Anyone want to see Canary Bird agaaain? Day before yesterday
