Interesting breeding of that rose Nollie, a lack of scent might be a downside but we can't have everything.. I keep looking at 'Jean Stephenne', I notice they sell it too on their website.. Loads of lovely purples !.. 'Royal Celebration' in particular..
Thanks for kind words @lizzie27 and @agnasia. I am looking forward to Monday holiday and even coronation to get a break!
@owdpotter, regarding Bring me Sunshine, I had two complaints, first it wasn't orange enough as per the original introduction photos and description, but I do like yellow as well and as a yellow rose it is nice. Secondly it had got lots of mildew last year. So far, it is growing healthy, no mildew in this season.
@Nollie, lovely blooms. I can almost touch it , smell it.
Each year I am totally captivated by the twisted sepals on 'Marie Nabonnand'.. they remind me of a French lady's feathered hat, or fascinator perhaps.. 'Othello' huge oak leaf sepals almost, and the bud looks to be proliferated, green leafy growth in the middle.. hmm.. fascinating rose.. 'Kathleen Harrop'.. ..most of my Dahlias have sprouted..
Sounds as if you really need that break @newbie77, poor you.
I do love my purples, even if they don’t stay purple for long here.
Marlorena, yes scent would’ve been good, but if VH is healthy and turns out like the photos with masses of large clusters, which it would need to to have any impact, I’ll be happy. I was also tempted by ‘Le Feuillerie’ but already have a surfeit of yellows. Well, perhaps minus one Golden Celebration if my instincts are proved correct. It’s lost half a dozen formerly healthy canes and is now down to a few sickly ones after objecting strongly to a late move. There are a couple of new buds, maybe just residual energy in the canes. C’est la vie..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I love walking around the garden and looking for buds, found absolutely loads on The Pilgrim ….
Eustacia Vye has lots as well and looking like it’s going to do well this year …
Last summer my Mary Delaney was badly attacked by caterpillars which pierced a hole in almost every bud, it’s not looking as healthy as The Pilgrim but fingers crossed …
The saga of my dead looking Malvern Hills continues, it has slowly started growing and putting out leaves but some of the leaves get black tips, curl up and drop off. It’s definitely looking like a weak plant, does anyone know why the leaves are doing this? I fed it Top Rose about a month ago but is it lacking something?
Ah thanks @agnasia I bought it as a potted rose last March so it’s a new one. It had quite a few blooms last year so I’m hoping for loads this year. I love the colour of the rose, pink with an apricot centre and it smells gorgeous too. Good luck with yours 😊
