This is my Cafe au Lait dahlia from last year @agnasia which I’ve posted on here before so apologies to anyone, especially as this is a rose thread 🙈. I think I might buy the rose now as well!
Truly gorgeous dahlia and photo, @CatDouch. I am growing Café au Lait Twist... a pink version... this year... hope it's a tenth as nice!
@pitter-patter Meilland International uploaded a great video yesterday to YouTube with Mathias showing us the process of raising seedlings all the way through to selection. Fascinating, but your pic is inspiring.
Accidentally ordered The Shepherdess, thanks to @bullfinch.
@agnasia, this may not be your taste, but is one of my most hard-working and carefree roses - polyantha ‘Marie Pavie’. I have one either side of my front door where they get a few hours of morning sun. It has a sweet, musky scent that may not be as intense as some but it wafts nicely in the air.
Very healthy foliage, near thornless (just a few tiny prickles under the bloom clusters) and neat bushy shape. This is it this morning:
Each bloom is small but very pretty:
The blooms age to white and don’t last long but are easy to pinch off with your fingers in passing - no need to deadhead down to the next set of leaves - and there are always lots of them and plenty waiting in the wings..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@pitter-patter Oh ok, I'd like to see that later on, I hope it flowers this year for you.. most of Austin's pink and apricot roses probably have 'Aloha' in there somewhere.. Beales used it too.
@pitter-patter Oh that's a shame isn't it.. Mine have survived unscathed without protection and I've had a few -8's.. I think they will be in flower soon. Also in a terracotta pot but it's a decent size.. I thought I read somewhere they're hardy to H4 [most of uk in average winters], but maybe not..

@pitter-patter, lovely seedling. We don't see roses in the seedling form much.
@Athelas, that rose in hotel is stunning. Enjoy your holiday!
