Welcome to all recent joiners, look forward to seeing your roses 😊
Well today was a washout in more ways than one. A good number of roses have hit the ground and need emergency support after torrential rain. Went to Barcelona for another attempt to see the Cervantes rose garden, having been thwarted by extensive roadworks last year that had us driving in circles for hours. Took the train and a taxi this time only to find an unadvertised closure to the public for judging in a new rose exhibition. Another full day wasted since it’s not exactly close. It’s clearly not meant to be!! Had a good lunch at any rate so that’s something..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@pitter-patter I meant to say earlier I love your single pink seedling, I wonder what that will grow into, be interesting to find out.. must be a repeat flowering rose..
@halling Looking forward to seeing your roses too..
The Harkness roses are a very nice duo.
Oh sorry about another wasted trip Nollie... perhaps 3rd time lucky next year?..
@Alfie_ that obelisk is great! I’m sorry if you already mentioned it, but where did you get it from? I’m wondering whether to get one for Emily Brontë, she is catching up on the Albrighton rambler! As she’s established I won’t be able to put an obelisk over her I guess, so it would have to be behind - would that work?
@WAMS those new roses look lovely. Although I think I’m going to stick with DA for my pot. We’ve booked a hotel near the gardens for my birthday and I would imagine I’d regret it if I didn’t get to choose a rose there. My garden is so small I really think this will be my last rose sadly.
I have PAoK, Olivia and Elizabeth on my shortlist. Is Scepter’d Isle too big for a pot? I’m also considering Nathalie Nypels and Scarborough Fair. They also have Jacques Cartier and Marie Pavie, although it looks as though they are out of stock of a lot of their roses at the moment.
Desdemona is teasing me, one bud is showing me colour, but I feel like we need a really sunny day to get them to break open.
Thank you @Tack. I inherited 3 roses from the previous owner of my house. All of them are very poor at the moment. And, I also have no idea what they are. I will replace them with some new ones.
I will enjoy the roses you all have first, then see what I like most.
Just had an hour or so jet washing aphids off most of my roses which are quite heavily infested. I misunderstood what was meant by having green fingers!! I also find that several buds have either been chewed or broken off, Desi being the worst afflicted. Unlike Marlorena we have not had any really heavy weather here, what else might have caused this?
@agnasia - my Desdemona is starting to open up too. It's between her and Vanessa Bell I imagine for first place this year, in my garden.
Just ordered some neem oil. Feel dirty even typing it. I don't like insecticides but despite my best efforts we've ended up with fungus gnats inside again. Need to get on top of them. Not using it outside at all.
I'm just squishing with fingers whenever I walk past. It makes such a mess, especially if I do several at once. There's so many. I'll be having Macbeth style nightmares but with my hands covered in aphid juice.

Impressed as very sturdy and all soldered together and arrived in one piece like this. Need to get planting.

@agnasia EB has got stiff upright growth.. not sure if it would be appropriate for an Obelisk..
Agree with @pitter-patter on birds could be breaking off the shoots..
