Not much going on here rose-wise — Pheno Geno Draga/Hallie doing well
How gorgeous is that?! Also, Elbfee's Louis XIV and Nollie's LEH standard and Lateral's Stanwell Perpetual and...
All the spoilers/rumours were correct. This looks wonderful. And Penelope Lively is a decent writer. (I did worry it was going to be a writer I couldn't stand... though that doesn't stop me buying Thomas Hardy-themed roses)
@SalixGold Roseraie Ducher don't send to the UK now, unfortunately, but they may consider it if you order a minimum of 6 roses .. so they told me a while ago..
'GdeF' actually turns pink occasionally, depending on temps.. before reverting to its usual colours.. sometimes you get a mixture..
I've bought it, Penelope Lively that is. If they were going to get me then at this exact time they've offered the exact rose I feel I'm missing; mid pink and ALL the virtues Too good to be true. With the 15% discount it won't be cheaper anytime soon.
@WAMS just saw that too, I volunteer as tribute! I like that, just what I was after so I will get one in a few weeks when I go as I imagine the gardens wont be short of prime specimins. Not sure I can recall Authors name though.
Oof at Thomas Hardy though, made me laugh, memories of AS level English literature studying 'Return of the native'... not the most thrilling book, it was dry as dust and plodded along like a snail! Funny story though, the entire year bar me notoriously flunked the paper (I scored 98/100 somehow??!) so something stuck in my brain as I can still remember flippin Diggory Venn and Eustacia vye now Arrggghhh
Well Penelope Lively does look appealing, especially if it is as good as they claim re health, fragrance, flowering etc. If it’s also less thorny and droopy might be a better alternative to Harlow Carr. I’ve never got much fragrance from the latter. Think we should give up all hope of them ever producing a deep colour again, though.
I’ve discovered an ants nest in my potted Lady Emma Hamilton (the old one, not the new standard) and I just can’t shift it! I have been flooding it with water daily for nearly a week, so much so I think I might be drowning it. Now tried dusting it with cinnamon powder but they’re just laughing and crawling all over it. Anyone tried ant killer granules? Would that poison the rose I wonder?
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
How is the rain tolerance on Princesse Charlène de Monaco @WAMS? I had bought Boule de Neige as a replacement for rain-hating La Rose de Molinard but it’s a TCL dying duffer so I’m looking for alternatives.
Just spotted this gorgeous creature on Super Trooper, a Scarce Swallowtail:
Lady Em again, this time my trio (yes I have a surfeit!)
New Roald Dahl has filled out impressively, not so floriferous yet, but next year..

I replaced the previous ramblers that were lost when I had landscaping done and replaced with 3 x The Garland about 4 years ago. Very pleased with it. Only once flowering but the citrusy scent is lovely and the 10-14 days of blossom if a sight to behold. The mass of orange hips persisted throughout winter.

I bought the Penelope Lively rose, too... it's gorgeous. Seems it's going to be very popular! But then I like pink... and I like roses...
