@Songbird-2 I thought you might like to see the same rose four days later, plus the others that are now opening showing the range of colours ( on a cloudy morning) It must have been a bit windy while we were away, repairs needed on the Irises
That's a beautiful rose and the colour wonderful @purplerallim .I think I may have a bud coming on our rose, not too sure, it could just be a new cluster of leaves, so will leave it a little longer and then post. It's so exciting. Wonder if it will have a scent?
Those petals on the ‘new’ DA (yawn) also look as if they’ll instantly fry in heat. Wonder if we’ll ever see a red, purple or lavender rose from them again..
@ElbFee yes it was me asking about Stan, thanks for the photo - very impressive! Not that I have room for it, just interested 😊
@Victoria Sponge LDB is sturdy but can sprawl a bit. No fragrance, but the big rich red blooms do really stand out. The orangey tones shown in my earlier photo were off, so I’ve fiddled with the colour balance to better reflect reality:
Buff Beauty (L) and Alister Stella Gray (R). In a few years I’m hoping to get a wall of blooms between these two. Two out of three of my perennial foxglove ‘Goldcrest’ have come back, one just peeking out bottom left, geum Prinses Juliana on the right:
BB blooms showing better colour this year:
Rose de Rescht may have small blooms but strong colour and superb fragrance:
Cute button eye:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
At least we’ll get to see it mature earlier than usual thanks to said cock-up! Shame about the fragrance, possibly being sacrificed for other attributes such a bushier habit, health and/or greater flower power..

Yes, but I always wait for that Obscure Jude to flower! I think this way over time DA will loose some fans who liked their roses for fragrance.
^ That is gratifying @newbie77. The marketing department probably reckon they can shift far more product appealing to the mass market with ‘fuss free’ roses - if that is indeed is what they turn out to be. If they had retained their older, more fragrant roses as a special heritage collection then everyone would be happy.
I was tempted to order Jude from Italy at one point, but it became OOS virtually overnight, so that ship has sailed. I’m going to try some roses from Guillot’s allegedly very fragrant Generosa collection instead.

Nollie and Newbie, that's what has happened with a lot of the widely available roses in the US. They're bred for disease resistance and vigor, and the scent gets bred right out of them. You really have to search for fragrance, not just happen upon one while at the GC. Kordes is the breeder for the most popular Knockout series. Are the Kordes in the UK and EU similarly unscented?
