Please excuse the dodgy photos … Francis E. Lester is up on the Shady Bank in our ‘Wilderness’ so I had to Zoom in a bit … but after a slow few years getting settled, he’s really beginning to perform beautifully, albeit briefly. 😊
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
@Discandied Just the kind of garden I like... such lovely roses.. 'Fantin Latour' the best of all there I think.. I'm only sorry I never got around to seeing that garden..
'Francis E. Lester' is another beauty I used to have.. brief but worth it if you have the space.. I never did quite get the supposed banana and orange fragrances..
This thread continues to wow, love all the roses both old and new mingling with perennials.
Well a lot of balled, battered, chewed and mouldy blooms in my garden, I didn’t appreciate how much torrential rain we had in my brief absence! A few blooms survived the onslaught..
Mrs. Oakley Fisher, Lady Emma Hamilton and William Shakespeare 2000:
The good news is I might get a decent second flush after all that rain, everything has put on a new growth spurt..
Marie Pavie bounced back fast from a total haircut following insect damage:
Munstead Wood, this own root cutting has an almost graceful, very un-MW habit:
Lady of Shallot, keeping fairly shrubby in it’s new position. No octopuses so far:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Lovely roses everyone 🤩 @Discandied thanks for sharing. I'm enjoying vicariously your garden visits. 😜 @Nollie probably that is what is needed to not have unruly octopussy canes, own-root. Yellow Meilove - glorious yellow, lightly scented Lady Marmalade - again a very faint scent. The above both roses are new this season.
Highly fragrant Chandos Beauty 😍 Purples here - Royal Celebration, Weg der Sinne, Rhapsody in Blue. I have Ebb Tide too, but it is in an awkward position to take photos; will try later.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
@Discandied I visited Coughton Court last summer but not at the height of the blooming season. I'm glad you got to see the rose garden in its full glory.
My pictures today...
Manning's Blush, a sweet briar x moss (though definitely more bristle than moss).
Stanwell Perpetual. all pretty blooms and spiky stems.
Red Abundance, long lasting velvety flowers but no scent.
Don't grow up - grow sideways.
