I've not known 'Desdemona' to frazzle until temps reach the 90's.. and I've seen some reports of 'Dee-Lish' coping with heat in some hot places in the U.S... so strange things happening in various places..
Cute squirrel earlier... I didn't know councils had allotment inspectors.. I feel sure they don't around here, things seem pretty lax in that department.. Lovely roses, that GdeF as a spreading shrub is gorgeous Eustace.
Some warm weather arrived here for us in the East, at long last.. very dry out there, despite flooding last month..
@WAMS@Marlorena Thanks. GdeF is in a barrel planter, trained up a support pillar. It is in its 3rd season and it might be the 'leap' effect we are seeing. Nothing special other than all my roses got a liberal mulch of farmyard manure this March as I ordered a bulk bag.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
I’ll raise you a crispy Dee-lish WAMS, this time last year in a couple of hours of morning sun. La Rose de Molinard has a similar but even more intense fragrance but that gets ruined by rain!
@SYinUSA I don’t have that many but my top performers in heat would be Munstead Wood, Darcy Bussell and Gertrude Jekyll. All those are in full sun. The apricot and yellow tones like LEH, LoS, Roald Dahl etc., tend to need afternoon shade. Harlow Carr also does well in morning sun only, which really is the best position for DAs in warmer climes. I love The Prince, but that does crisp in summer. You would probably get better and more advice for your zone and specific local climate on the US-based Houzz rose forum, though, are you on that? The search facility is useless, unfortunately!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Only 70F here, so no heat problems... mid 80's tomorrow.. 'Desdemona'.. soon to be going over.. 'Tottering by Gently'.. 'Wild Rover'.. 'Lilac Bouquet'.. 'Wilhelm'.. 'Tall Story'.. 'Scented Garden'..
According to my extremely unscientific observations, two other factors come into play as well as actual temperature. First, whether it’s dry or humid heat - generally, blooms with good petal substance do better in both, whereas thinner petals can easily fry in dry heat. Second, what roses are willing to acclimatise to. Unusually high (for the UK) heat might explain why Eustace’s Darcy is crisping more than mine. Here, roses are used to it.
My new Roald Dahl is only getting about 2-3 hours of sideways morning sun. It looks healthy, but even for a rose recommended for shade that’s pretty mean. It’s beginning to bloom and time will tell if I need to give it more exposure. I’d like a nice new basal now to fill in the gap at the front please..

It is 26.8DegC in deepest shade at the back under the balcony. Special Anniversary is fine right now in full sun on the balcony but you have me worried.

The climbers are all able to cope with the heat until now.
