@edhelka I thought I was growing some pretty lemon yellow verbascum chaixii from seed collected in the verges, but the foliage of what I have growing in the exact spots I sowed look nothing like those in the verges, much lusher and bigger-leaved. They do return well as I admire them every year. I am waiting to see if it’s just my better garden conditions causing the lush growth or if I’m growing weeds! Some of the fancier cultivars are sterile, I understand. I do really like that white one Marlorena.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I thought I’d pop by again and post another photo of this rambler, Rosa ‘Morletii’, as it’s now in full flight. Am so trying to sell more people on this scarcely-known rose. Plus points: early flowering, usually from late April onwards, little disease, amazing scarlet foliage spring and autumn. Minus points: once-flowering, no scent. But what a show!
Hi @Marlorena@edhelka@JessicaS and other fellow rose growers, looking at the sheer volume of roses some of you have I was wondering how you keep up with deadheading?
@punkdoc, have you already got Gertrude Jekyll? If not, I consider it one of the very best DA roses with a knock out perfume. It can grow quite tall, up to 6ft for me, maybe 3ft wide. Last year I severely pruned mine down to a couple of feet and it's looking good with more foliage lower down. Otherwise I've been recommended Strawberry Hill, which is I believe a similar deep pink. I'm sure others will have more suggestions.
@Mr. Vine Eye A good call - my husband's favourite and I have a b and w photo of the original..
Is anyone else seriously disinterested in what they bring out?.. I'm not sure why I should be when they clearly don't care too much about some of their most coveted roses..
@Meomye As I walk around my garden about 20 times a day, I pick a few off as I go around.. I've snapped off just one so far this cold Spring..
Bridge of Sighs is going for it now, posting all the pics while it lasts!
I’m actually going to have to start deadheading!!
Thinking about Evelyn - I obviously have the pot but also wondering whether I have room in one of my borders. I can move the grass (not showing much signs of life so far) or other plants around, but are there any thoughts on this gap? It’s next to an abelia - would that cause any issues?
Definitely won't be buying, @Marlorena. I hope to get their Strawberry Hill potted this season but would prefer to get it from C and K Jones or Styles... cheaper AND bigger plants, what's not to like?
Edit: yourBoS is glorious, agnasia. Unsure about Evelyn in ground. So far my one is v healthy in its pot

Monty Don would of course be very popular with the blue rinse brigade if my dear old mother is anything to go by.
