Thank you @edhelka, I have not grown any gallicas. The once-flowering aspect would be alright and she does sound easy-going ( Belle de Crecy). What a shame that Purple Lodge is not available in the UK. The scent sounds like what I am missing. I have noticed fewer and fewer purple-red toned roses on the D.A. website for instance. Such a shame.
I was gifted my Purple Lodge, but my parents ordered it and had it shipped to me in the UK from this website. Shipping is a bit intense, but if you order a few roses it balances out.
It must be a tough plant @Marlorena when you think of the boiling hot weather we had last year and it didn’t receive a drop of water 🥵. When I think how I fuss over my other roses 😂
Lots of lovely rose pictures to catch up this morning. Belated anniversary wishes @purplerallim. Hope you get better and better @Fran IOM. Your roses are lovely and I'm sure they will be good even without pruning this year.
@cooldoc Nice collection you have there. 😊 @Alchemist that Buff Beauty covering your fence is a beauty. @pitter-patter as ever, your garden, front and back, are splendid. @Marlorena, as a newbie, I am looking forward to learn from your experiences with roses.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.

And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
I’m away from home at the moment but am so enjoying seeing such fabulous gardens and diversity of roses. They just get better and better and it looks like it’s turning out to be a vintage year!
@edhelka I’m sure you have tried more purples than me, I feel sure Marlorena has too. I have resisted the temptation of quite a few that I knew would struggle in my climate so will just enjoy yours instead, especially your Reine des Violettes!
Purple Lodge/Palais Biron is my top purple for form, colour and fragrance @clematisdorset and for a purple it has good heat-resistance. Hopefully you will find bloom longevity will increase with maturity, Mine last well on the bush.
@Rojas I am really in two minds regarding Mme. Isaac Pereire. I grew mine in a pot for 2 years and because it became so vigorous and threw out very long canes, I recently planted it in the ground trained on a large east-facing trellis. It does bloom well there but they often fail to open because the petals are thin and fry easily. Foliage health is very poor. I feel sure there are better, more resilient repeat-flowering, fragrant climbing bourbons out there!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
To cooldoc (wow at your photos!) and edhelka and anyone else with the beautiful Amazing Day, mine is flopping about all over the show this year having been quite sturdy last year. Culture problem or normal, do you think? Does yours need support?
FranIOM wishing you a complete and speedy recovery
@Tack. @Marlorena@Eustace Thank you so much for your kind comments. I feel that the roses of late on here are the best I have seen. Some colours I have never seen before. Well done all.
This is my 'Cornelia' @Marlorena. It's in it's second summer, there are plenty of buds ready to come out, but it'll be a while (if ever) before it's a patch on yours though. Mine's currently in a pot, ready to be transferred to a bigger one later in the year. Is it a rose which does well in a pot or needs to be in the ground to get the best out of it.
Versicolour / Rosa Mundi had been in bud for a while but finally started to open her blooms this morning. She's only once flowering but should put up a good display for the next few weeks.
Don't grow up - grow sideways.
