@Jason-3 As I mentioned in a previous post, my local GC has almost their entire display suffering the symptoms you show in one of your photos. I forgot to mention they had a similar outbreak two years ago, but the year after (last year) they were clear. Obviously I don't know whether they were the same roses, but it may demonstrate it does come and go.
I was watching a magpie eating something on my rose arch. I thought - is it tearing apart of a mouse? A squirrel? It was certainly ripping something to pieces with close attention and gusto. I got out my binoculars and saw... it was ripping my rose buds in its talons - as if it were a prey item. What the hell?
🤯
I have seen blackbirds do the exact same thing. We have had a fledgling sparrow hopping around the garden all weekend. Hope it gets airborne sooner rather than later, as my collie just sees a moving chicken dinner.😬
Beautiful Bathsheba, @ohdeere20219RdGTx-I. It's a mesmerising rose. Even my husband remarked on it.
Last year I planted three Gertrude Jekylls together. Two are now regenerating while the other is coming into its own. Such a wonderful rose. The bumblebees in particular adore it.
Was taking a snap of Vanessa Bell when the bee inside it popped out. Made me jump! @Athelas when I rearrange my plants in autumn I am nicking your idea of accompanying Vanessa with purples/lilacs!
Same blooms on the Lark Ascending, a couple of hours apart. Beautiful transluscent petals, seemingly lit from within. But it does shatter far too quickly.
Love Song, from C and K Jones Sophie Rochas.... love this! Thanks to, I think @Victoria Sponge for the heads-up on where to get it
Virginia McKenna... a bit like a more scented, more floriferous Vanessa Bell
Stunning G de Féligonde, @Mr Vine Eye! Esp with Rhapsody in Blue!
I don't have much today.. nearly 90F, too hot and dry.. my best rose right now is probably 'Lady of Shalott' but no photo of that..
'Mutabilis'.. having a quiet time, needs pruning and sorting.. ..last bloom for now on 'Mrs. John Laing'.. stood up to the heat today.. 'Bienvenue'.. 'Lavender Lassie'.. Lavender 'Ashdown Forest'.. ..these Indian Pinks will soon be flowering.. [Spigelia marilandica]..
Just spent delightful hours browsing local rose dealer websites in search of Fragrant Plum. Found a lot I like but not the Plum. Helpmefind doesn't give any continental name for it. I'll keep on looking.
This one is completely uncomplicated and stays a compact 50cm bush.
I am still not sure whether I got Papagena as labelled or rather Papageno. Good looking but not suitable as standard. Which I have.
Ha, first one on Palais Biron / Purple Lodge. I am defending it against the bxxxy vole. My Supercat trap cought one yesterday. Carrots seem to be irresistible bait.
As I like Hulthemias / Persian roses a lot, here is another one. In its first year and still on ankle level but already fragrant. A good thing that my neighbours cannot look into my garden and see me crawling around.
Incredible colour and good scent.
The heat changes this rose. Normally the colours are not as washed out.
Like the different colours of inner and outer petals as well as the fragrance.
A good rose companion: Agastache. Use it as tea too. The bees love it.
One of my top roses for fragrance. The blooms are huge and last long.
