Useful to see your lovely Desdemona @Eustace as I was excited to see today a couple of buds on mine, gifted to me by my brother recently. Hoping my daughter can get it planted in a bigger pot at the weekend for me - weather permitting.

OK here's a conundrum, that I am grappling with.

Looking to plant a shrub behind my Lark Ascending, so I am not fussed if it flowers before or during the rose's flushes (mine is just about to start it's second flush about now).

The aspect is North Facing with a 4 mtr wall to the rear, so nice and sheltered.  Though not in complete shade, I would class it as partially shaded.

Wondering if any of you with mixed borders have any suggestions - prefer if the colour contrasted with the rose, if flowering at the same time.  This shrubs other neighbours are a yellow Tree Peony and a Viburnum Snowball.

I'll just leave that thought with you and see what comes in!

@PeterAberdeen I have a semi evergreen Magnolia Fair Cream in part-shade and I really like it. Smells lovely too.

    Thank you @bullfinch and @WAMS!
I couldn't resist and got Scepter'd Isle, Princess Alexandra of Kent and The Generous Gardener during my recent (very badly timed) visit to David Austin gardens. One good thing about having an empty garden is that I have plenty of space :)
I also bought Dannahue, Eustacia Vye and Claire Austin online. Interestingly they are much smaller compared to the ones I got from the shop. Going to pot them all up now and hope they survive my care :)

Told you @salo.daria that your collection is bound to grow 🙂

Here are some flower pics from the second flush. ⌚ from left: Gertrude Jekyll (now taller than the fence), Darcey Bussell, Golden Celebration, Arthur Bell, Sweet Pretty, Munstead Wood.

@Eustace and the worst part is that there are so many more roses that I'd like to get!
