Lovely balcony @salo.daria! When did you visit Austins gardens? Im going next weekend rescheduled from july.
----- Ive already decided to get penelope lively as hubbys gift but MIL has very kindly sent some birthday rose money too so Im eying up another whilst im there as the best specimens are in the shop! Maybe Boscobel or Desdemona as everyone's got them! I dont have any dark pink austins and prefer the traditional cupped English roses rather than the button types like Elizabeth.
Recommendations please? I can do potted or fit a really big rose out front as im pulling out some awful thorny shrubs. Ive got lots of yellows and paler pinks so maybe darker pinks.
Ive got Lady of shalott, summer song, queen of sweden, bring me sunshine, then retired ones; munstead wood, crown princess margaritte, brother cadfael, Alnwick rose, lady Emma Hamilton.

@JessicaS I went last weekend. It was pretty bare to be honest. I guess now is the time when most roses take a break, right? Was still worth a visit but I am sure it's much more impressive during prime flowing time.
@salo.daria Yeah, I was supposed to go earlier in july but was ill, so this is the earliest free weekend we could rebook the hotel or lose the lot realised its only 1.5h away from me, so can always plan to go again I hope. Hopefully I can at least see how they do in rain!
Just spotted Penelope is sold out online, im hoping the shop might have one though, did they have any stock did you notice?
@JessicaS sorry, I didn't think to look for it at the time... to be honest I don't even remember seeing it in the garden anywhere. I just grabbed the ones I saw mentioned on this thread. I thought they would be a safe bet as I am a total noob. It was a 2 hour drive for me and I think it was still worth it.
@salo.daria thank you, good to know it was worth it! Looking forward to it.
Styles have released all 42 new roses, some lovely ones. I chose 'happy couple' with its two tone which I can claim is for my anniversary and was an easy pick as I love that combo, second I eventually chose 'garys rose' because of its darker colour and interesting looking edges, but it was a tough call theres some lovely ones. Thornless scented silky smooth looks very interesting too.
I like your choices, @Imprevu. Adore Arome caught my eye as well but I haven't added it. Lots of time, though!
"Happy Couple" looks gorgeous- I am seriously tempted!- but I think Styles urgently need to lay off the ChatGPT that they have accidentally credited there. What a formulaic, charmless description. "In summary"... ouch.😁
I am liking Boscobel, Jessica... Seems to blend in with all sorts of different colours. And PAoK is a beautiful one I bought around this time last year and it was still blooming when it snowed in December.
