Unfortunately I was taken ill early March with a two week stay in hospital and was unable to follow this thread as I love to see others roses. I was concerned that my roses had not been pruned and was not sure what impact this would have on them. Now that I have recently regained some energy to once again start gardening it was too late to think of pruning them as they were already covered in buds. Thanks to the NHS I can take pleasure in them once again. Just a few pics here as I have to rely on family to take photos. This one is a climber on the pear tree. Need to attend to the black spot at some time.
I hope you continue to gain strength @Fran IOM Your family have taken lovely pics, thank you for sharing. As we have established I am no expert but given how I revived 2 roses which hadn't been pruned in years I can't imagine yours have come to any long term harm.
Smashing roses everyone, such lovely ones this evening.. even with black spot.. My gosh, people are getting huge basals on their roses.. ! Gabriel Oak and all..
Great to see you back again @Fran IOM and feeling better..
@pitter-patter Thanks.. I expected you to say it wasn't scented, so that's good... next time I go to Beales I'll take a look.. they have it growing on support in their garden as a small climber if I recall.. I'll try and take a picture next time..
@WAMS aww.. thank you, that's a question.. might take some time, so I'll have to get back on that.. but I think we're all on a journey, we all have our favourites don't we, even those who've only been growing roses for a couple of years... my journey has just gone on a lot longer.. but it'll be fun for me to think about it, and put to paper, maybe tomorrow..
@purplerallim Oh almost forgot, lovely bouquet, you're very lucky and congrats..
that reply to WAMS was something Marlorena.. I suppose, we get a bit sentimental when we have to reflect on our past.. Or atleast I related it to that..
trying hard to catch up with the posts here.. took me 3 days to finally go through all the posts.. Few shots taken yesterday.. Twice in a blue moon.. largest flower in my garden so far..

@ElbFee I didn’t do anything. They moved when the wet weather returned. They don’t like wet soil, so giving the rose plenty of water might work. I’m not sure about the house? There are some natural repellents I think, but I haven’t tried any.
Thank you @edhelka, I have not grown any gallicas. The once-flowering aspect would be alright and she does sound easy-going ( Belle de Crecy). What a shame that Purple Lodge is not available in the UK. The scent sounds like what I am missing. I have noticed fewer and fewer purple-red toned roses on the D.A. website for instance. Such a shame.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
Amazing roses on this thread, a truly joy for my eyes, thanks averybody.
congrats @purplerallim and I am surely looking forward to sniff my Blue for You.
@ElbFee you say your Jacques Cartier is in lowish, and I planted 2 JC expecting it to be max 1m tall. Now I find myself with one about 50/60 cm while the other has put out long canes 1,5m and more and I don’t need to say it has a very awful shape overall.
I thought polyanta roses were kind of tidy shrub, but while Rose de Rescht and Comte de Chambord have a good shape, not so JC. Any of you have ideas on why this rose behave like that?
Lovely photos all. Have been following every page keenly without posting for 2+ years as have been away a lot! As there were discussions on buff beauty /bathsheba/CPM, posting some pics taken today. Bathsheba hasn’t flowered yet and is the least performing of the 3 as it’s in shade…

Buff beauty is a lovely monster (top right) and easily the best of three here. This is the left half.. Roald Dahl in the foreground
When we moved here in November 2019 I had no idea there was a rose in amongst the Leylandii hedge at the back of our garden and I don’t think I noticed it until last summer.
It’s amazing what conditions some roses can cope with, I can’t even find where it is planted as I can’t trace the stem back through the thick hedge, it’s never been watered or fed yet still manages to fight it’s way through and produce blooms. It really brightens up the hedge when it pops through. Can anyone identify it?
